It was in the wee hours of the morning you awoke from a bumpy carriage ride being prodded along by a bumblebee's cane--to find that you were actually being rattled and poked by one Yellow Pearl.
"Mmmnnehwa? What is it Pearl?"
"My [Y/N]! Now that you've regained consciousness, there's a monster stalking your base!"
"A...monster?" It took a moment of rubbing your eyes for it to register. You slid out of bed and staggered after her to the front room. "What do you mean?"
"It has feet made of stone, a nose even longer than mine, and oh! These arms!" She raised her own arms to imitate. "Rigid hands, with pointy fingers, coming out of its head!"
The two of you reached the door and Pearl jabbed a finger at the window. "And it's trying to consume your territory!"
"Oh, that's a deer. It's okay; it's just eating some grass."
"It's...harmless?"
"They actually get spooked and run easily. Just don't corner them."
"Ah...well then, my apologies for pulling you from your dormant phase." A deeper gold came over her cream-colored cheeks--a blush?--as she looked away from you.
"No problem," you assured, trying not to squeal at how cute she looked. "Let me get cleaned up and we'll start this day."
You brushed your teeth and showered, becoming less and less able to contain yourself at the prospect of having an alien roommate. It was just now sinking in--how little she knew about Earth, and how you were the one who would get to teach her. How many other humans were this lucky? You got dressed and headed to the kitchen, prepared to explain what this "breakfast" was that you were going to make--
And found a plate of steaming french toast on the table, a glass of milk, and a proud Gem standing at attention beside it.
"What? What is all this?"
"Do you like it?" Pearl rose up to her toes, eyes gleaming. "While you...sleeped, I looked through those programs on that screen you showed me and came across one that informed me of this 'brickfist' you humans require, and how to prepare it. Fortunately they also ran through proper sanitation procedures; that, I would agree, was quite necessary. I hope you don't mind my acting without your permission; I just wanted to take initiative."
Her lips pursed in suppressed disgust as you tore into the meal.
"It's a delicious initiative! Thank you!"
Your praise wiped away her repulsed pout and brought back that smug smile. So she loved compliments. You had the feeling you were going to have plenty of them for her.
"You sure catch on to things quickly," you observed as you finished up. "I never did figure out how to get the eggs just right." You made about half a move to clean up after yourself before she swept the dishes away to the sink and began rinsing.
You wiped down the table when you realized. "You know what's funny; you and the other Pearl don't need to eat but you're both naturals at cooking."
And cleaning, you observed as she was drying and putting away the last dish when you turned around.
"So...I have the day off; guess we could spend it together. I don't suppose you've thought of anything you'd like to do? Something you'd like take more 'iniative' on?"
"Do...the floors require sweeping?"
"No, they're fine." You thought about all the different aspects of Earth life you could show her, and you couldn't stop the grin as you looked pointedly out the window. "Is there anything new you would like to try?"
