Kendal’s POV

Kendal-Mom!

I yelled from my room as I realised my permission slip was still not signed.

Mom-What is it now, Kendal?

My mom said looking tired and warn out. I smiled at her and then looked down at the paper.

Ken-Permission slip?

M-Oh right, I am so sorry darling. I just don’t think you should go visit the White House, it’s all the way in Washington, DC. It’s so far.

She said looking a little nervous. Why was she so nervous? It’s just DC, only about 6 hours away. What was the big deal? I always go on trip likes this.

Ken-Mom! I always go on trips like this! It’s only 6 hours away and only for 4 days. I won’t die meeting the President and I prooooomise I won’t embarrass you! I’ll only say hi, and bye. Okay?

She hesitated and then gave in. She took a pen from my desk, my blue one, the one my dad gave me. I don’t remember my dad that much, he moved away when I was only 6 and Kayleen, Kaesha and I don’t even have any souvenirs of him. Nothing, no pictures, no birthday cards only each a pen. Kayleen had a red one and Kaesha had a white one. They all wrote in black though. I nudged at her not to use that one and she understood right away. She closed the pen and carefully put in back in my pencil case as she chose another one. She signed on the bottom of the page and she looked up smiling.

M-You better have fun or else that was a total waist of ink.

She said winking as she placed my pen back on my desk. I laughed and put the pen in my pencil case.

Ken-Yaya, now go sign Kaesha’s and Kayleen’s so they can go to and I’m not going alone.

She smiled and walked out of the room.

I put the paper into my school bag for school the next day and then opened my laptop. I opened my Wattpad account and went to my profile, Kendal_Love (go follow her for real and see the book she is writing, learn her full name, birthday, likes…).

Kayleen- Ken? Can I talk to you for a minute?

Kayleen asked and I looked up from my laptop.

Ken-I’m kind of busy, Kay. Can’t you see?

Kay-Sorry, but it’s really important.

I looked up again and nodded.

Ken-Okay, what up?

I asked getting a little concerned as I realised that Kay never asked to talk. Not with me, she normally talked with Kaesha or Mom, or her best friend Arielle.

Kay- Well you know trip, the Washington, DC one to meet the President and all that fancy stuff?

Ken-Yes, Kay. What about it?

Kay-Well...Don’t you think Mom’s acting a little weird about it?

Ken-What “du” mean?

Kay-Well, you know, she’s acting all nervous. Like she never cares how far it is or how long it is. Remember when she let us go to Germany for two weeks? What’s the difference? It’s way closer and for a lot less long.

I nodded as I realised how weird our mom was acting about this trip. Kay and I decided to go talk to her about it. I shut my laptop and got up as I followed Kay to the kitchen where Mom was still cleaning from dinner. She smiled at us and got to glasses out of the cupboard. She got my favorite juice, Kay’s also, not to mention Kaesha’s too and poured some into the two glasses. She pushed in front of each of us on the counter and we both took a seat racing to the one who was the most filled.  Kay got to one with more in it and I let out a groan but brought the other glass to my lips and took a sip. De-liscious!

Ken- So Mom, me and Kay were…

My mom cut me off by correcting my false sentence making.

M-Kay and I.

Ken-Right, Kay and I were thinking about the DC trip and how you don’t seem to be to comfortable with us going.

Kay-Yeah, and remember last time we went to Germany, for two weeks? You were fine!

M-I wasn’t fine, I missed you girls so much and you were so far away.

Ken and Kay- Mom! You know what we mean!

We looked at each other and laughed. We always did that, practically being twins, we thought “similarly”.

M-Haha, yes I do. I don’t know, it’s different. You’re going to meet your…your President.

She hesitated at your. Our what?

Ken and Kay-OUR WHAT?

M-Stop yelling! Your president! The president. Gosh Girls, I’m really tired, alright? Give me a break please. I am going to bed. And you should too, you have school tomorrow.

Ken-Mom…

M-No Mom. It’s late and I’m tired, good night.

She turned and walked away. I don’t know what’s up with Mom, she’s never tired at 10, and she’s usually up till 11 reading or writing in her famous journal. She writes a journal every year and publishes it. She never let us read it, she says it’s for adults not teenagers. She’s never even told us what it’s about, I guess maybe it’s personal.
