I took a deep breath once again and continued down the darkened hall until I reached the small white light switch, and flicked it on.
Nothing was there. There was no sign that anyone had even been here at all today. The floor by the front door remained as clean and shiny as I had left it this morning -part of my punishment for the time my mother caught me with a condom hidden in my underwear droor. Although I never used it, I liked to keep it for emergencies.I checked the closet to find that my mother and father's coat and shoes were both missing, as they were this morning before I left for school. Nothing had changed.
Maybe there was a really bad traffic jam on the highway and they were held up! I thought to myself, but I knewI was just kidding myself. They would have called me.
CLICK! It was as if a light switch had been turned on inside my head! I had left my phone in my gym bag, which was currently in my locker, locker 4248 on the second floor of Middleton High. No wonder I hadn't gotten the call! Everything would be just fine.
I decided to wait untill they arrived safely home before I went to bed, so I raced up the stairs, flicking lights on all the way up to my bedroom in the Loft.
I always loved having the loft as my room. It was almost as if I had my own apartment! A whole floor to myself.
I skipped over to my dresser, plopping my heavy bag on top and yanking open the very bottom droor to snatch a pair of old grey sweats with about a dozen holes in them. They were my absolute favourite. I also reached into the second droor to grab an old Katy Perry concert t-shirt. I slammed both droors shut at the same time and quickly changed, shoving my limbs through the appropriate holes.
I threw the clothes I had previously been wearing across the room into a small pile in front of my closet door, and trudged over to my vanity, reaching in the top droor to grab my pink hairbrush. I yanked out the elastic that was currently holding my ponytail into place, and combed out all the tangles and knots in my dirty blonde hair.
After my hair was nice and smooth, I threw it up into a messy bun and added in a neon green yoga headband I had recieved as a birthday present from one of my old friends. I dropped my hairbrush back into the top droor and knocked it shut with my hip as I headed over towards the closet. Scooping up the pile of clothes with my left arm, I opened my closet door and tossed the pile into my light green hamper that was starting to overflow. Then I shut the door and headed off to the bathroom.
I wet my face and then grabbed my makeup remover/ face wash/ cream from inside the cupboard underneath the sink, and squirted a small amount onto my palm. With the water still running, I scrubbed at my face and eyes with the liquid and took hand fulls of water to rinse it all off. I blinked away the extra makeup that had managed to sneak into my eye while grabbing my toothbrush and my Colgate sensitive whitening toothpaste.
I brushed my teeth quickly but thouroughly, and rinsed my mouth with warm water when I was finished. After rinsing out my toothbrush, I put everything away and shut off the light on my way out.
I skipped down the stairs after grabbing some socks that I had left on the floor infront of my bedroom door and grabbed the remote from the clear glass coffe table. I plopped down on the charcoal cloth couch and flicked on the T.V.. After channel searching for about twenty-seven seconds, I found a re-run of "The Big Bang Theory", and pushed the select button. It was just ending, and then all the commercials flooded onto the screen.
A commercial for chest pain painkillers came on, and that was when the phone began to ring.
