I set down the cardboard box in my hand down onto the floor next to the wall. Laying down onto the new, black couch, I look around at my new apartment.
I haven't even unloaded half of my things from the truck outside and I'm already ready to take a break. I listen as the front door to my small apartment opens and closes followed by the clicking of heels against the hard wood floor.
"I still don't understand why you got this apartment. It looks like it's about to fall down." Blair says dropping a small box next to the one I just brought up.
I just shrugged and pulled my phone out of my back pocket. I feel the couch shift next to me as Blair sits down putting her feet up on the small wooden table in front of us.
"It's not much, but it will have to do." I say looking at the brown paint peeling off the walls.
"You should just move in with me," she says. "Anything is better than this place"
I don't answer as I get up from my place on the couch walking towards the front door. I don't know how I'm going to get the rest of my stuff up here, but I'm going to have to do as much as I can.
Opening the front door, I walk down the hall looking at the cracked walls. Making my way over to the elevator, I press the first floor and step into the small space. I hear a loud cranking noise before I feel myself being lowered down.
I walk out as soon as the doors open not wanting to be in the elevator for a second longer. There is only five or six people in the lobby. Some are sitting on the old, worn out couches while others are standing by the water dispenser in the corner of the room.
There aren't many cars in the parking lot. The ones that are parked here, though, are old, beat down cars with chipped paint and some with dents in the sides.
I make my way over to the large truck with my stuff in it. I take a few small boxes before walking all the way back up to my apartment, putting it down, and doing that over and over again until the truck is empty.
It takes about 45 minutes to move all of my stuff upstairs, but I finally finish. Now the only thing I have to do is unpack it all. Won't that be fun.
I sit on the floor and put a box in front of me. Opening the box, I take out the picture frames one by one putting them in a pile. I call Blair over and she starts to hang up the multiple frames throughout the apartment.
