"Ring~ Ring~" Jamaica's ringtone interrupted the silence.
"Leigh, can you answer the phone instead? I'm really busy finishing my project." Jamaica said, asking a favor to Leigh, one of her close friends, who is in the kitchen.
"Okay. Just finish your project so we can already eat." She said then picked Jamaica's phone, just above the refrigerator.
She then concluded that the caller is a stranger because of the 'unknown caller' displaying on the screen.
"Hello? How may I help you?" She asked to the other line.
"Do you know where is Andrea?" A monotone voice asked, almost sounded like a robot.
"She's not yet home, why?" She asked curiously. She don't know but she started feeling a bit anxious.
"Do you know where she is?" The voice changed into a mocking one. Leigh began to feel her fingers tremble out of fear but she is more than worried to Andrea so she gave no attention to it.
What if they got her kidnapped and they are calling Jamaica now for ransom? For Pete's sake they are only students who are living together and have a very limited amount of money each just enough pay for their monthly expenses.
"I beg you pardon, S-sir. What are you talking about?" Leigh said trying to fake a laugh to lessen the fear and worry she's feeling. She thought for a minute that this person was only prank calling.
"Oh come one! Don't act dumb! I know you know what I'm pertaining to." The other line said, still mocking.
She felt extreme anger! How dare this monster do that to her friend! But she remained calm and composed. She needs to act normally to prevent the caller to think she's slowly believing his/her lies.
"Jokes on you. Do you think I will ever believe you? You even didn't let me hear a single voice of her and sending some photos of her, even just photoshopped! You maggot!" She scowled!
"No. Joke on you, Leigh. I am already giving you an idea but you didn't listen and chose not to believe. If ever what I said is real? Then? You'll be forever blaming yourself because of the cowardice you've done!" She can't help but to cry. She is feeling more than three emotions right now. She can't think straightly!
"And finish!" Jamaica exclaimed then laid her back at the backrest on the sofa she's sitting. She've noticed Leigh's panicking so she hurriedly went to her.
"Leigh--" When she was about to touch her friend but she suddenly screamed.
"Ahhh!" Leigh screamed as if she was scared of the touch. When she saw it's Jamaica, tears fell from her eyes nonstop and handed the phone to Jam. She tried to calm herself but she couldn't just think clearly after thinking the safety of her friend.
"Hello, what's the matter?" Jam said, curiosity was evident in her voice.
"Oh! I just told your friend something. And if she wants to save her, she must answer what I prepared. Go to the cabinet before the sink. Open that and you'll see a paper." Then the phone beeped.
The call was cut.
"What was said?" Leigh asked, her voice laced with fear.
"There's a paper inside the cabinet near the sink. You must have to answer what that caller prepared if you're really eager to save this certain someone. Tell me Leigh, who is this someone you' need to save?" She asked Leigh, holding both of her shoulders to calm down.
"A-Andrea." With a soft voice, she almost whispered.
"Shit!" Jamaica ran to the kitchen and went to the cabinet. She opened it and saw a small white paper with numbers written:
44-34 44-23-15 11-44-44-24-13
Both of them were confused upon reading the numbers--- the codes.
They tried trying other codes they know but none of those matched the numbers.
They were busy solving when the paper flew because of the air coming from the open window. Fear crept within them and felt terrifying goosebumps!
But despite that, they tried to reach for the paper which was flipped because of the wind. Jamaica picked it from where it flew and saw some words written.
''How many tentacles do octopus have?'' Leigh read what was written.
"Eight..?" Jamaica answered in a duh tone. Despite being scared, she still have time to be sarcastic.
"Polybious Square!" Leigh shouted out of the blue and immediately snatched the paper from Jamaica's grip.
She then tried the code she was shouting and when it worked, they started shouting like idiots.
It says:
T-O T-H-E A-T-T-I-C
They immediately made their way to the attic of the house they're renting. Both of them were so nervous and panting hard as they twist the door knob to open. To their surprise it was not locked! They expected it to be locked if it was really the room where their friend is being hidden.
When they got there, they can only see nothing but darkness. They were touching the walls, looking for the switch.
When Leigh had touched the switch and turned it on, she was surprised by what she saw. She started crying, not in horror, but in pure astonishment and joy.
She saw Princess holding a cake with a candle, Andrea with balloons with both of her hands, Niña who is the one holding the confetti, and Jamaica who already have a birthday hat on her head.
"Happy Birthday, Leigh!! Enjoyed our surprise?" Princess asked as she hugged Leigh and gave her her gift to her. Leigh jokingly punched her arm.
"Idiot! I was worried!" She said, remembering what she did earlier.
Damn, she really thought it was real.
Everything went out happily. They explained to her that the voice on the phone was Princess'. She was just using a voice changer. Jamaica was only acting. And it was all Niña's plan. Andrea don't really want to be the one who was kidnapped but she got nothing to do because others already have their own role. And they laughed because of that.
They planned. They Kidnapped. They celebrate, Leigh's Birthday.
