The room was quiet, but the tension was loud. Replacing words were the sounds made as the silverware and the plates met. The two sides of the mansion were two separate worlds after the marriage. It's not that we didn't see each other. It was more along the lines of avoiding each other like the plague.

The plague and breakfast didn't go well together. Especially the car ride we had to take together to avoid someone thinking that the billionaire and his wife were already having trouble in heaven. Really and truly, we were stuck at judgement as we stated the good and bad.

Trying to decipher them at least.

"Are you ready?" He asked, voice parting through the tension as if he was Moses at the Red Sea. Placing down my cutlery, I nod and push myself away from the table. I watch as a maid scurries over and clears the table before me as Leo rises and checks the time on his Rolex. After confirming the time he begins to make his way out, me following behind him.

His neatly combed hair fell out of place as he sat at the driver side of his white 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible, a contrast to the black suit he wore. I sat in the passengers seat and he wasted no time as he started the car and swerved out the driveway. "Listen,-" he starts, not being able to finish as I derail him.

"Listen? I always thought my ears were for licking. My bad."

Letting out a heavy sigh and tightening his grip on the steering wheel as we turn a corner, he starts again. "Katelyn, I said I was sorry." I shoot him a cold glare as my lips pursed. "I'm tired of hearing that! I want actual improvement. I don't want my husband showing up with a hangover and then getting drunk at the event. I don't want much, but you promised me that you'd never treat me badly," I let out a small huff before continuing.

"You've sure treated me. Seeing you drunk is quite a treat."

With that, the rest of the car ride was silent. Nothing more could be said and with his lack of a rebuttal, putting up more of a fight would be for naught.

Finally, the car arrived at a building that seemed to almost have no end with how tall it stood among the neighbouring buildings. The car moved slickly on the gravel as it parked next to a Ford Mustang in the parking lot. Leo exits the car before I do and instead of waiting for me to gather my stuff, he runs to my side and opens the door. "Yeah, I'm not a good husband. I'm barely a good person, but I'll try my best to stop drinking."

I only raise an eyebrow at his statement. "How am I supposed to believe you, Leo?" I say, exasperated.

"The same reason for you being sarcastic." He says. The smirk he's trying to hold back is apparent with how the corner of his lips twitch upwards. "Are you saying I should believe you because I can?" I was beyond taken aback, blinking several times while I tried to comprehend the situation. "If you're done blinking, I have a business to run."

_

The large room filled with employees listened intently as Leo gave several notices. As he spoke at a podium, his clear and steady voice rang throughout the room, demanding respect. He went through several announcements before he cleared his throat and gave me a side glance as I stood a few feet away from him.

"I'd also like to introduce my new personal assistant, Katelyn Rochester."

With that the crowd was no longer silent, but not loud either. They began to converse quietly at the sound of their boss's last name next to mine. I could almost feel each eye as they stared intently at me and wondered what made me so special from the countless women who threw themselves at him daily. Every curious, scrutinizing and envious eye was on me as I stood before them.

"That's all for today. Make today a productive one. You're dismissed." Leo says, instantly stealing the gazes for himself.

The employees scurry out of the room with a new topic of conversation for the day. At most a week or so. Either way, I have other things to worry about. Like catching up with my rather quick husband as he heads for the door. "Aren't you going to show me around?" I ask. He only pauses for a few seconds, waiting on me to catch up with him. I walk over as quickly as my legs will move. I know how important his business is to him at least.

Each room we entered was a repeat of people constantly sucking up to him, seeking approval. Whoever didn't fall into that group were actually prioritizing work. They were easily his favourites compared to the others who only irritated him.

A small smile creeps to my lips as I notice his annoyance with an employee that derailed him while he was speaking to me. Glancing to the side, he only furrows his eyebrows at me. In response I feign a coy expression as we continue to walk down the hall and into the elevator. We had already been to most of the floors, one remaining.

The floor where I'd be working with him.

Saving us from any obsolete dialogue was the ring of the elevator as we arrived at the top floor. As we entered, we were only given side glances as people continued to work in their cubicles. "Mr. Rochester, you have an important call." A brunette who sat at the front of the room says. I guess I was invisible for a minute because that's how long it took for her to notice me standing beside him. It wasn't long before she began to eye me up and down.

"I'll be right back." Leo says. I nod to him then turn to the lady who's eyes seem to be stuck. "Is there a problem?" I ask, watching as her expression became a mix of angry and flustered. I couldn't hold back anymore and an amused smile revealed itself.

"God, I'm so late."

Whipping my head around I see a man speed walking towards the cubicles, coffee in hand. He frantically ran his free hand through his apparent bed head. Mumbling to himself as he walked, his eyes finally reached mine and he came to a stop.

"You're hot." He says. I was a bit taken aback by how easily he said it, but my state didn't stop him from making his eyes wonder. "You must be new, right? Marketing? Or are you just lost? I can help you if you want." This time he ends his sentence by sending me a wink. A scoff came from one of the cubicles and from another came a soft chuckle. "Um-" I didn't even get the sentence out before he introduces himself. "Hi, I'm Mark." Hand extended, he waits for me to join in on the introduction. "I'm Katelyn Rochester,"

"The boss's wife." I replied, wide smile planted on my face as I began to shake his hand.
