Chapter 1
"Do you not like it here...?"
I said nothing. My damp empty silver eyes stay glued to the floor, my arms wrapped around my knees that pulled up to my chest.
"Have you grown tired of this world...? This beautiful world around of us...? Have you grown tired of me...?"
I slowly look up to the figure before me, it looked small and childlike. It was covered in a dark shroud of shadows, fitting like a tattered cloak. It gently blew in an absent wind like smoke from an ember. The figure was humanoid its knees were pulled up to it's chest, resembling my position.
I put my forehead on my knees.
"I hate this place..." I said, with a venom in my voice no child could muster up.
"I hate everything about it. This ocean, the sky, the moon...And I really hate you..."
Not having a face, it is impossible to tell whether the figure was affected by my words.
"I am very sorry to hear that, Ruby..."
"Don't say my name...Its weird. I don't like it when you say it."
"But it's such a pretty name...Don't you like it? I do..."
"You can't say it!" I yelled at the dark companion. "When you say it, I wish I never had that name. Why wont you just go away and leave me alone..."
"Why would I do that, Ruby...? I love you too much to leave you here alone...Besides...I quite like spending time with you...I feel...Happy when I'm with you..."
"Well I don't. I just want to go home...But instead, I am stuck with you..."
"Is that such a bad thing...?"
"The worst..."
At that the figure could be seen flinching from the sting of my harsh words. I make no sign of continuing the conversation, choosing to ignore the entity. The shadow slowly starts to rise from its position on the ground, then it begins to slowly approach me, walking behind me. My eyes slowly rise following the unwanted company's path with a tired, suspicious glare.
The Shadow stands behind me, then lowers to the ground. The cloak around it rises and begins to wrap around my body. I flinch at the cold touch, looking absolutely repulsed at the contact. Though I try to maintain my empty gaze, making sure not to make eye contact with the creature behind me. "I do wish you wouldn't think so badly of me, child..." it says. "I only want to make you happy...Is that so bad...?"
"I'll never be happy!" I retorted "As long as I am here with you, that will never happen..."
