After the accident 10 years ago, Gu Hai was bedridden for almost a year, slipping in and out of consciousness and went through multiple surgeries. The car crash had caused a metal plate to stab through Gu Hai's back and punctured his heart. He also had a major head injury from the collision.
Fortunately, he was brought to the hospital in time, if not he wouldn't be breathing at this moment. But of course, Gu Hai has no idea he owed his precious life to a certain someone.
When his condition was stable and was finally conscious, the doctors discovered that Gu Hai was suffering from amnesia. He couldn't remember what had happened to him for the past 5 years.
Imagine Gu Wei Ting's shock when the first thing Gu Hai asked when he woke up was, 'Where's mom?'.
The next couple of years were difficult on Gu Hai as he had to went through multiple physical and psychological therapy to restore back his health. Gu Hai managed to gain back some of his memories after some time, but there was still a blank void during his 17 and 18 years of age.
Gu Wei Ting was fine with the absence of those particular memories. To Gu Wei Ting, the accident was the higher heaven's answer to his prayers, it was a blessing for Gu Hai to walk back on the proper path.
Gu Wei Ting's gratification immediately halted when Gu Hai suffered his first cardiac arrest at 20 years old. The doctors informed Gu Wei Ting that Gu Hai's cardiac injury went through some degree of haemorrhage due to a sudden contusion in his heart's muscles. From there so many complications rose with Gu Hai's condition.
Gu Hai's early twenties were spent in and out of specialized hospitals in Beijing. After a while his condition got better with strict supervision, of course. Gu Wei Ting regretted being thankful for the accident. He suffered as he watched his only son agonized. So when Gu Hai told him he wanted to attend business school, Gu Wei Ting didn't forbid it like he would before. With Gu Hai's current condition, enlisting in the army was out of the question.
Gu Wei Ting wanted to keep a close eye on Gu Hai so he sent Gu Hai to a local university. Later he was diagnosed with arrhythmia. During Gu Hai's graduation ceremony, instead of celebrating, Gu Hai had to undergo surgery to implant a pacemaker in his chest. Despite his poor condition, it was quite miraculous that Gu Hai managed to finish business school at the top of his class.
After the surgery, Gu Wei Ting pulled some strings and sent Gu Hai to America to get better treatment for his heart disorder. Gu Hai also joined Gu Yang's company in San Francisco to learn more about the industry.
Now 4 years has passed and Gu Hai was finally coming home.
The moment Gu Hai stepped out of Beijing Capital International Airport's arrival hall, three men in military uniforms proceeded to take his bags and escorted him to a military vehicle. Gu Hai remained unbothered as he fiddled with his phone, checking the current tech stocks in China. The car finally slowed to a stop in front of Gu Wei Ting's house. Gu Hai finally slipped his phone in his blazer's pocket as he got out of the car and entered the lavish villa.
