I hummed a tuneless song as I turned the lock to my front door, and pushed it open. As I walked into my house, I shut the door behind me. "Mom, I'm home!" I yelled, sliding my shoes off. I headed into the living room, and gasped at what I saw.

There, there was a lady I had never seen before, sitting cross-legged dead center in the middle of my living room, and reciting some sort of strange chant.

The woman was undeniably stunning, with chestnut hair twisted up into a flawless bun, a creamy complexion, and striking, bright blue eyes.

Regardless, she was still a complete and utter stranger, sitting on the carpet of my living room. I inhaled deeply, and began to walk forward so that I could interrogate the woman, when she began to speak. She said:

"I call forth a book,

too great to tell.

Come to me magic,

from Heaven and Hell.

And with my fingertips,

where this magic dwells,

I call forth,

the Book of Spells!"

Instantly, the area above the mystifying woman's hands began to shimmer, like a hundred twinkling stars.

The light became brighter, and brighter, so much so that I had to shield my eyes.

Then, the glowing abruptly stopped, and I saw something huge in her arms. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that it was an enormous brown leather book, with large golden letters plastered on the front, reading, "The Book of Spells".

I could only stand there, gaping at her, while a thousand questions darted around in my mind. Who was this lady? What did she just do? How was this possible?

Suddenly, she froze, seeming to sense for the first time that there was another person in the room. Her eyes flitted around, up and down, back and forth quickly, and her breathing grew heavier.

Then, she uttered a word so quietly that it was unintelligible. In the next instant, she had vanished, not leaving a trace that she had ever been in my living room.

Soon, before I could come to terms with what I had just witnessed, I heard an earsplitting beeping noise coming from outside. I plugged my ears, trying to drown out the noise, but to no avail. It just kept getting louder, louder, and louder still...

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! I groaned, and hit the off button on my alarm. I took a deep breath. It was just a dream. The same dream, in fact, that I had been having every night for the past three weeks. I had no clue what it could mean. Magic wasn't real, after all; but I didn't have time to ponder it yet again. If I didn't hurry, I would be driving to school looking like something from a horror movie.

With a huff, I slowly lifted myself off my bed, and trudged to the bathroom.

Within an hour, I had showered, dressed in my new white sundress, brushed my teeth, and was on my way to the kitchen for breakfast.

I had gone to the pantry, and taken out a box of Frosted Flakes, before I noticed my mom sitting at the kitchen table, reading a newspaper.

"Hi, Mom." I said casually, grabbing a bowl. "Hello, dear." she responded, without looking up from her reading.

At first glance my mother, Kymberley Monroe, would seem like a very reserved, dull person. However, the exact opposite was true. In fact, she was the single most lively person I had ever associated with.

After I had poured cereal, and then milk, into my bowl, I snagged a spoon and plopped down in the seat next to hers.

"Anything new?" she asked me, finally looking up from the newspaper, and tucking one of her auburn locks behind her ear. "Well," I started, "Carly got another boyfriend." My mother just rolled her eyes.
