Curiosity enveloped my body. I was usually always in control of my every emotion, but I couldn't help just to feel a bit intimidated by this email. I never, and I mean never, have got any emails without me knowing who it is. Gulping my saliva, I started to ponder, even one wrong move could expose me.
After what felt like a few seconds, I had reached my final conclusion, which by the way, cogitated for a long time, taking in account of every single consequence. I was going to open it.
Patience was key, which was something I didn't have. I waited for the page to open while my anxiety got the better of me. It said in the email, "Dear Cara Miller," exhaling a reassured breath as they didn't use my real name. "You shall come to Crawcum Lane to meet with me. Yours truly, Liam / See you around the corner."
Familiarity crept up to my lips, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. As if I would meet with him, is he out of his mind? Closing my laptop, I began to put on the cloak that covered my face. I needed to keep my cover, you never knew who was watching.
After a while I heard a faint knock. Ignoring it, I carried on putting makeup on myself as I just thought it would be Mrs Thompson. It came again, but more firmer. Taking an irritated breath, I opened the door, with the fake smile I've mastered over the years.
"Good mornin' Mrs Thompson, what do you need now?" I asked as politely as I could not opening my eyes at that moment.
"Morning Skylar," they said. I was convinced it was Mrs Thompson saying that, but it was, instead, a deep manly voice, that was strangely familiar. I opened my eyes to see a buff tall man standing on the doorstep.
"I'm afraid I'm not the person you're looking for," I said, beginning to close the door, but out of nowhere, I was stopped in my tracks, the man's foot blocking the door.
"No, you're Skylar, Skylar Conner." He waited for my response, but I stayed quiet, as I knew if I said that was my name, something would happen, something bad.
"Well then, I'll see you around the corner."Memories began to flood my mind, recognisable ones. He tilted my chin up, forcing me to look directly into his eyes. "Hi Skylar."
"Liam? ...L..Liam?" My voice was quiet and faint but perceivable. A mischievous smirk began to form on his lips.
I snapped out of that moment and began to regain my power and conscience that I usually had. "Get lost!" I snapped at him and slammed the door and locked it as soon as I could, then cursed under my breath. Tears were threatening to fall against my will, but I couldn't give Liam that satisfaction, so I sobbed as discreetly as I possibly could.
My life was over, feeling like I was 16 again, the day I'd lost, Alex and Rhys. Now that Liam was here, I would never be safe.
Liam, my old nemesis, my old enemy...
