                                                          [Prologue]

"If the shoe fits, wear it. If the bitch gets an attitude, break her nose with it." Is the quote that I live by everyday. Standing up and walking over to my nightstand, I pulled out the black sharpie marker that I always keep in there and undid the cap. I tapped my foot impatiently, trying to tap into my brain to think of a new quote that could be added to the many quotes already on my wall. I finally thought of something and wasted no time in writing it on my wall.

Just hit play and watch my life fall apart..

After I was done with writing my new quote of the day on my wall, I capped the marker back up, stuck it in my back pocket and let out a sigh. There was a knock on the door a moment later and in walked my step dad. He smelled of booze and sex.

I know I'm wrong for saying this, but my mother truly is an idiot. If she lets a man come before her children and sleeps with other women, she should be whacked upside the head with a brick to knock some sense into her.

I rolled my eyes at him and let out another sigh. Walking back to my bed, I flopped down on it and opened up my book of poems.

"What do you want Randy?" I asked without looking up at him.

"I can't come in and just say hello to my only step child?" He asked.

I shook my head, still not looking at him. "No, now tell me what you want. I don't like you and you don't like me so there's nothing to it." I said.

"Wow, you get right to the point don't you?" He asked and then laughed. I let out an annoyed sigh. I wish he'd tell me what he wanted already and stop beating around the damn bush. He came over and sat on the edge of my bed. I pulled my legs up to my chest and began to hug them, while waiting on him to tell me what he wanted.

"I need to borrow 2 grand." He blurted out. I raised an eyebrow at him.

"What happened to the money I gave you an hour ago?" I asked him. How the hell can you blow a grand in an hour. Randy ran a hand through his hair.

"I had to pay off some people..." He trailed off. He cleared his throat. "But seriously, I need to pay more people so can you get me the 2 grand or not?" He asked.

I stared at him for a long time, did I really want to do what I did last time to get that money? I knew if I didn't there would be consequences. Holding back the tears at what I was about to do, I slowly nodded my head.

"Fine. I'll have it in an hour." I told him. He got off the bed and smiled.

"I knew you'd do this for me." He told me as he walked out of my room. He popped his head back in a second later.

"I need that money by midnight." And with that, he slammed the door, leaving me to feel ashamed at myself.

I walked over to the bathroom and took a shower, then I threw on some clothes and headed out.

The things I do to protect my family.
