"Last stop: Clover, Santa Ana!" The bus driver calls out. I collect my things and step off of the bus. "Thank you!" I say to the human ashtray before he pulls off.
There is an old, weathered sigh with red paint chipping terribly. The letters CVE stood out in white while the remaining letters left behind an almost black shadow in the setting sun.
I roll my suitcase behind me and clutch my backpack's strap with my free hand as I examine the town. It was desolate and eerily quiet. The only lights were from an old, beat down convenience store and a small pub across the street.
My stomach growls and I place my hand over it. I have to get something to eat. My eyes scan over the few buildings and set on the small corner store.
My suitcase trails behind quickly. I realize I'm making a lot of noise and I honestly don't wanna cause anything. I'm not scared since I have Kindness in reach. I push the dirt clouded door open. Mildew covered by the smell of clean linen air freshener fill the air.
The store is completely empty besides me and the cashier. A guy, about my age is eying me, seemingly checking me out. He has fair skin, and his hair was bleached blond. He has on baggy clothes, with a red Miami Heat snapback. He was built like an athlete and is clearly taller than me.
"Ya lost or sum'n, baby girl?" He asks with an urban accent. I ignore him and make my way to the candy bars and scan over the variety of chocolate, taffy, and bite size treats.
I grab a Snickers, a Kit Kat, and some Nerds. I turn around only to jump back in surprise. The guy was standing behind me, and I know he was looking at my ass.
"Oh! Wha-how- why are you behind me?" I ask in an uncomfortable tone. This guy is already rubbing me the wrong way. I back up as he steps closer to me. He grabs my butt and I whimper, "'Cause, I asked you a question and you ignored me," he grabs my arm and I yelp.
He grips onto arm, ignoring my blood seeping through the thick bandage. Tears start to well in my eyes as this predicament was too familiar.
He gives off a creepy smile. My lip trembles as he looks into my clouded eyes. I turn my head, letting them flow freely.
"Please...just leave me alone....,"I plead. He tries to get me to look at him. "I'll give you that stuff for free if I get something in return." I turn back to him, scared out of my mind.
He stood tall over me, "No! I-I'm not gonna do that, I'll just pay. I have m-money." He pushes me into the freezers behind us, making me hit my shoulder painfully.
Hot tears trail down my face as he towers over me, "That won't a request, bitch," he grits. Thinking he's gonna hit me, I curl up in a tight ball, sobbing. "Please, don't hurt me!"
Just then, I hear a raspy, feminine voice, grabbing the guy's attention. "Hey! The fuck you doin', Ricky?!" The stranger then pushes the guy into the freezer beside me, grabbing him by the collar. I quickly reach up, holding my aching arm.
She was about my size, yet she strikes fear in this guy. I wonder why. "It's nothing, Keh. Just-," the stranger cuts him off. "Do some shit like this again, and you're fucking dead. Don't fuck with me." Both look at me and I realize I'm still trembling with tears running down my face.
The girl turns back to him slowly, "See what you did to the poor girl? She obviously don't belong here. She's too...innocent," she says the last part looking at me. I bring my knees up to my chest and continue to cry.
Everything that just transpired made dark memories resurface. The girl shoves the dude away, making him lose his balance, then stoops down to my level.
