Lani and I developed a strong relationship in a matter of weeks. No, not girlfriends yet. My stitches healed enough for me remove the bandage. Aaliyah really grew attached to me and I actually feel like a mother.

Though, every time I look into those beautiful eyes, I tear up. I see Dinah in her more and more. I'm actually questioning if Lani is her biological parent.

I need to stop thinking about her, she's dead. Though, she was favorite lover. I internally smile until Lani breaks me away from my thoughts, the small child in tow.

"Huh, what?" She chuckles, "Aaliyah wanna know if we can go to the park?" I nod with a smile before crouching down to the 4 year old's height. "Want me to dress you up?"

She nods excitedly, taking my hand. We went into her room where a lot of toys were scattered across the carpet. I go over to her dresser and pick out a dress that I would wear back when I was around 15.

"Here you go, Princess. What shoes do you want to wear?" Liyah goes to her closet and digs around before showing me a pair of white sandals.

I help her into her clothes then grab her comb and brush from her nightstand. I pause as I see a picture of an all too familiar face.

Dinah's sister, Normani, holding a newborn Aaliyah in a hospital bed with Lani smiling beside her. My eyes widen and an undetectable feeling stirs in my stomach.

Oh.

She's her biological mother.

I shake my head and sit on her bed, motioning her to come to me. "What do you want me to do to your hair?" She turns to look up at me, "I wan it like yours, Mommy."

I had my hair in one lazy braid going to the side. My bangs messy above my eyebrows. "Okay, sit tight," I take her hair out of the three braids it was already in and began to comb.

I was finishing up when Lani came in, dressed in a track suit. "Hey, baby girls. Look at my little princess!" She says, picking the girl up once I had finished.

She props Liyah on her hip and looks over at me, "Ready?" I nod and we head downstairs. We reach her car and she set baby girl in her booster and straps her in before opening the passenger side for me.

"Such a gentlewoman," I giggle as I slip into the low riding car. She closes my door then makes her way to her side. After shutting her door, she starts the car and pulls off.

"Are you excited to go to the park, Princesa?" In the rearview, I see Aaliyah nod, "Yes, Mamá, can we get ice crean after?" Lani chuckles and nods, "Of course, baby girl. Mila, you want ice cream, too?"

I give her a look, "Duh, who doesn't?" Lani smiles and continues on the road before turning. "Lani, you never told me your last name." She scratches her head and glances at me, "My last name is Tesfaye." I nod thoughtfully, "Where does your last name come from?"

"My dad, it's an Ethiopian name. I have another brother, Diego, but he's back in Greyfield. " I tilt my head to the side and she continues, "It's kinda similar to the Top, but it's a little like here, too. Nothing to do really besides clubbin', doin' drugs, and other stuff."

She whispers the word 'drugs' in fear our child could be listening.

Still weird calling her my daughter, but it's a good kind of weird. I look at the rearview again when I hear Liyah singing a tune to herself. "What cha singing, baby doll?" She looks up and smiles, "I dunno, I make it up." She's just too adorable.

Soon, we stop and I look around. There was a fully functional playground with swings, a merry-go-round, slides, everything that I love and more.

Lani gets out and goes over to Aaliyah's side to unbuckle her. The little girl jumps from the car and continues to bounce in pure excitement. Lani opens my door afterwards and I step out.

We both take a hold of the girl's hands and head to the playground. When we got close enough, we let her go and she sprints full speed to the jungle gym.

I look at Lani pleadingly and she sighs and points to the swings. I clap like a child and went over to the swings. I notice we were the only ones here, which makes it better for me.

Aaliyah was sliding down the slide and waves at me when she reaches the bottom. I wave back, a giggle escaping my lips. I start to swing myself steadily until I got high enough to see almost the whole park.

Lani comes up and leans against the beam holding the swings in place. "Having fun?" She chuckles. I squint my eyes at her and stick my tongue out. "Such a child," she shakes her head. I jump off of the swing and stick the landing. I do a playful bow as Lani claps. "Thank you, thank you," I joke.

Just then, baby girl runs up to us, "Mommy, Mamá, where do babies come from?" Both of us were taken aback from the sudden question. We look at each other, silently telling each other to explain.

When Lani refuses, I sigh and got down to the little girl's level. "Baby girl, we'll tell you when you're older, m'kay?" She nods sadly and that's when we hear her stomach growl.

Lani scoops her up in her arms and tickles her tummy, making her giggle. "Sounds like somebody's hungry." Aaliyah nods, her braid moving with her. I already love this.
