It was approaching evening when I found a small clearing. I laid down on the edge of it under a pine tree. I fell asleep with the breeze blowing lightly, carrying Myles's scent on it.
When I woke up only a couple hours later, there was a heavy mist on the night air. The mist had a red hue to it and smelled of iron. I immediately grabbed a shirt out of my bag but I knew it was too late. My movements were slower than normal. It had to be a concoction the rogues came up with. I wrapped the shirt around my face, hoping to prevent more inhalation of the mist.
I walked silently through the mist and found a shadow wading through it. I followed the shadow for a bit, stalking it and sizing it up. It was male, built, but something was wrong with his head. It had straps around it.
I was about to make my approach when another shadow appeared next to it. I heard muffled voices, like they were speaking through something. "Where's Mike?"
"He has the heat vision goggles so he's taking a wide berth."
"How wide? He couldn't have gotten that far." The one who had spoken turned holding something.
Two things struck me. He was holding my bag, they must've thought I was a male since I didn't have any feminine products and I still had short hair. It gave me a chill that they had gotten close enough to see me and that they had gone through my stuff. The second thing was that they wore masks. Gas masks to be specific. So, I was right, the fog wasn't natural. And since it was a red hue and my body was slower, I guessed it was vampire blood mist. Very clever. Too clever for regular rogues.
The two men started walking again. I followed behind them, trying to stay hidden in the mist. Thankfully my black clothes helped with some camouflage.
After some time they came to a large hill. The way it was perfectly spherical told me it was man-made. Must be their base, I thought.
The two men stepped up to a gathering of bushes around the hill. One reached down and opened a door on the ground. It lifted some bushes on top of it, opening into the ground. They were about to go in when a third man joined them.
"Found him?" One asked the new man.
He shook his head. This man's mask was different. It was shaped larger around his eyes. Then I remembered they had talked about one of them having heat vision goggles.
As soon as I thought it, the third man turned his head towards me. He jerked his head back slightly in shock before lifting his hand to point.
I rushed at him with as much speed as I could and kicked him hard in the face, he fell back groaning. The other two realized what was happening and came at me. I ducked as the left one went for my head and side stepped the other. I punched one of them in the gut and then bit the other ones arm as it swung past me. The shirt over my mouth had fallen off and I knew I was slowing down more and more. Heat vision came behind me and kicked my leg out.
I rolled on the ground trying to keep from getting kicked. It didn't work because I rolled right into one of their boots. They started kicking me hard but I focused on not breathing in too much mist.
Heat vision pulled me off the ground and threw me down the still open door. I hit stairs and rolled down them until I hit my head on the last step. My body stopped moving but my head was spinning. I think I have a concussion, I thought before I was hit by something in the temple.
The world went dark.
Sorry about the wait. School has been a little hectic. Hope you enjoyed :)
