"there's no place i'd rather be."

Once the group had all filed into the apartment, if you could even call it that - Alicia was quick to drag us down to the living space, sitting us down on the soft leather couches. "No time for small talk. We need to talk strategy," she said, grabbing a remote from beside the flatscreen.

"The games don't start for like another week?" Adon scoffed.

"Just shut up and listen," I nudged his arm, looking intently towards Alicia who sent a small nod of gratitude my way. Followed by a small glare at Adon.

"Thank you," Alicia said, flicking on the t.v, "we didn't have much time on the train to properly discuss plans for the games, so I want to take you through each tribute and how to handle them."

"Alright," I nodded. The screen changed to what could've only been district ones reaping; the crowd was actually excited for the tributes to be announced. Their Capital escort walked up onto the stage, quickly walking over to one of the glass spheres and reaching their manicured hand inside.

"Maeve Elliot," they read out.

"Someone always volunteers, right?" Adon questioned.

"Every single time," Alicia said, keeping her eyes on the screen, "except this one."

We watched as the girl, Maeve, slowly walked up onto the stage with a horrified look on her face. No one had volunteered for her. She was just as helpless as the rest of the tributes. We didn't pay much attention to the boy who walked up after her, and much to our dismay, he had volunteered.

"District One, Carter and Maeve. The first half of the career pack, Carter will be very lethal. Stay away from him and Maeve too, just to be careful," Alicia warned.

"We don't take them on?" I asked, realising how stupid the question would have sounded.

"Do you think you could beat a career with years and years of training?" Alicia said with a raised eyebrow.

"I don't know," I shrugged my shoulders, "if it really came down to it I think I could," I said with a definite nod.

"He looks cocky," Adon interrupted Alicia and I.

"Extremely," Alicia said, flicking to the next reaping.

"Next, District Two, Mika and Tiberius." Both were volunteers, and both looked like they could kill me with a single glare.
