The theme of this book is - dark academia. I have always been a fan of this aesthetic- whether it is wearing layered sweater vests, being absolute literature/art maniacs, agressively typing on a typewriter while sitting beside candles, writing letters to parents using an inked quil in the hostel room and pouring hot wax on the envelope to seal it with a stamp.
My problem with the aesthetic was the lack of showing people of colour, homosexuality, females and only sticking to elite groups of men having leather bound books and cigarettes so I changed it a little bit so my mcs include pocs and they explore different aspects of having sexual freedom.
This book is heavily inspired by the movie - KILL YOUR DARLINGS. It is a cinematic masterpiece so I would recommend watching it :)
