"Rome! Be careful baby, stay in the yard!" Betty yelled out the window at Romeo as he was riding his bike.
"Ok Mama" Romeo responded.
"I can't believe that he's already 3, and riding a bike. Time flies, doesn't it" Jughead chuckles as he looked up from his computer.
"Yeah" Betty responded "My baby's all grown up"
As Betty washed the dishes and talked to Jughead about her writing projects, she noticed that she couldn't see Romeo anymore.
"I told Rome to stay in the yard, my crazy boy" Betty said, peering out the window.
"He probably just opened the gate to see the squirrels again" Jughead chuckled
Betty went out the back door to see Romeo on the grass shaking up and down as if he were laughing.
"Romeo! I can see you laughing from here you crazy boy" Betty laughed as she walked over to Romeo. She turned him over onto her lap to see his head bleeding furiously and was having a seizure. The blood went onto Betty's hands. She gasped and put her hand on the wound.
"JUGHEAD! R-ROME HIT HIS HEAD, HE ISN'T AWAKE." Her breathing sped up "CALL THE AMBULANCE!"
"Romeo, wake up." She cried as Jughead ran out the door with the phone to his ear.
"My son fell while riding his bike a-and he isn't awake. Please send an ambulance!" Jughead exclaimed
The minutes felt like they turned into hours as they waited and cried for the ambulance to show up. They saw their son being strapped to a gurney, blood dripping from his head. Not responding. This was a parents worst nightmare, their child, their world being hurt.
As they got to the hospital, nurses and doctors rushed to Romeo's side as Jughead and Betty waited in a private waiting room. Where it was just them and a couch.
"He's gonna be ok, it's just a cut..." Jughead hoped out loud"Yeah. He'll be fine. It wasn't that bad, right" Betty said as the tears swam down her face and onto her blood-soaked clothes.
They both sat down on the couch in silence. The memories replaying in their head, was that all they were gonna get? Was that the end to Romeo's story; a teenage pregnancy turning into a beautiful miracle. As time passed, they sat there, waiting to get the good news they were waiting for. All they yearned for was to see their son.
"It's been an hour." Betty stated.
"Yeah, hopefully we'll get some news soon" Jughead responded
They waited until the surgeon came into the room. Betty and Jughead jumped out of their seat and onto their feet.
"How is he?" Jughead asked, hopeful
"Sir, we did everything we could"
"No. No!" Betty yelled as tears flooded her eyes
"But despite our best efforts, Romeo lost too much blood, and is brain dead. I'm so so sorry for your lost"
"He could still wake up, right?" Jughead asked with tears running down his cheek
"No sir, he doesn't have any brain function, we did the best we coul-"
"Well, your best wasn't good enough to save my son!" Betty screamed as her eyes turned red and her tears seemed like they were never ending
"Please, just give us a moment" Jughead cried as the surgeon left the room.
Betty's heart dropped to her stomach, her eyes were burning red. Jughead held unto his beanie and wiped his tears from his face. Betty looked at him and they hugged eachother.
After a while they were brought into the room where Romeo was lying. Cold and lifeless. Betty touched his hand and his face as Jughead touched his hair. They both cried, never wanting to let go of their son.
"Rome, I'm so sorry. I love you." Betty said as her voice broke.
"We'll never forget you. You have to wait for Mama and I on the other side." Jughead said fighting back his tears.
After a while of being in the same room as their son, they signed papers to donate Romeo's organs. They didn't want another parent to feel what it felt like to lose a kid. Time sped up as they signed the papers and said goodbye to Romeo. That night, they went home to an empty house.
