Mayura
And up, side to side, rock back.
Kneel, c shape round the umbrella, jump and bow.
Got it down, finally
Oba
I remember my first dance in the Shakuhachi ritual, it was like falling in love with yourself
Mayura
Isn't it where grandpa proposed Oba?
Oba
Indeed it was May, bless him
Mayura
Were you nervous?
Oba
Of course I was, but once those beautiful flowers bloom, it's as if it all melts away
Mayura
Yeah I barely remember when I saw them for the first time
Oba
You remember even being that young?
Mayura
Yes, I was 5 but only remembered the fireworks and the fluctulights blending with each other
Oba
That's great May
Mayura
It would've been greater if Ma was here to watch
Oba
I know but I'm here for you Mayura
Mayura
I know and I thank you Oba, but why can't Ma and Pa watch me in person?
Oba
I understand it's tough being the daughter of the world known innovators, but always remember they're proud of you, they've always been
Mayura
If they were they'd be here
Oba
Nonsense May, I'm sure they-
Kla
May!! They're heading that way already let's go!
Mayura
Oh gosh, bye Oba wish me luck!
Oba
Be careful and you'll do great!

I grab my umbrella and shoes, jump into the transporter and we zoom to the hot springs.

Kla
If it weren't for me I'm sure you would've gotten here late
Mayura
I was just reviewing the dance Kla, I would've remembered
Kla
Says the one who forgot almost the entire straw project
Mayura
It's not my fault those straw plants are so complicated, I stayed up all night trying to get them to sleep
Kla
Sleep?
Mayura
Yes sleep, they live almost like we do
Sensei
Ok students! The time has come to perform our very best tonight. Does anyone have any questions of the schedule this evening?
Uria
(raises hand)
Kla
(low voice) Ugh, her?
Uria
Why does May get the front part again?
Vei
Because she's the daughter of Halai and Brél duh (class laughs)
Sensei
No Vei she gets the front part because the council chose her
Kla
(scoffs) I'm sure you would do way better princess
Uria
Weikla shut up, I would do it infinite times better. All you do is follow her wherever she goes
Mayura
That's enough Uria, let's just get the dance over with and enjoy the flowers

Uria and her buddies, why do they have to exist? I know it's a bad thing for me to say but still, do they have to be this selfish? Believe me when I say I didn't like it when I was told of having the front part. I'm pretty sure it's because my parents promised something to the council for my part in the dance. Now that I think about it I don't want them here at the ritual.

Kla
You ok May?
Mayura
Kind of, but I'll be fine up there, you?
Kla
Mostly nervous but same
Mayura
(valiantly) We'll do our best, just imagine the desserts waiting for us after the ritual
Kla
Great now I'm hungry, thanks May
Mayura
No problem haha
Kla
Ever since you met that boy you've changed
Mayura
What b-
Sensei
Ok everyone go to your positions!

We all stay at our positions in the boats holding out our straws in each hand. The lights turn on and the fog fades away, each boat floats to their precise places on the stage. I end up in the front like practiced, Kla two people behind me. We begin our dance.

We all merge into what's called the Shakuhachi flow of the ritual

We all merge into what's called the Shakuhachi flow of the ritual. Basically it means to become one with your surroundings and what you represent. I open my eyes and look at the giant crowd across the hot springs.
We finally stop the dance and kneel for the inhale period. It's just like Oba told me, everyone starts inhaling while the beautiful flowers bloom and release their aroma. As soon as the fluctulights release into the air and the springs we end our dance with a bow and head back to the hot spring bank. I felt a big relief in me as if a giant weight was lifted off my shoulders.

Kla
THIS IS AWESOME!
Mayura
I know right???? We gotta hurry up and get the sweet glooms before they run out!
Kla
How about you get the sweet glooms and I'll get the golden cups?
Mayura
Ok I'll meet up with you... over there by that pink tree
Kla
They're all pink silly!

We break out in laughter and each do what we were going to do. The sweet glooms are basically this sponge bread stuffed with fruit and glazed with the nectar of the flowers. The reason they run out quickly is because the public is only allowed to use a certain amount of flowers for food to preserve their life. I get ahold of four of them and rush by the loud crowd and head towards the tree I pointed to. Music starts playing on the stage in the middle of the hot springs just where we performed. This basically means "Everyone to your seats! The fireworks are about to start!"
I see Kla holding the golden cups in her hand in a distance going across the bridge in between all the people, someone taps my shoulder, I turn around and see Urías fist head towards my face

Uria
Not so tough now without your body guard huh?

I look down and see the sweet glooms ruined on the floor. An anger I've never felt boils within me...

Mayura
YOU'RE GONNA REGRET THAT!!!

I swing at her with all my might but see Vei come towards me to tackle me down. I get dragged by both of them away from the crowd and kicked merciless by them. They tear apart my umbrella and laugh as they walk away.

Tears? Why am I crying? Do I want someone to save me? Do I long for the warmth of Oba's warm hug of shelter?
No... that won't help, not anymore. I pick myself back up and walk painfully towards the tree where me and Kla were supposed to meet. I see her standing there looking around with the golden cups in her hands. The fluctulights start falling down to the ground as if it were rain. I stop what I'm doing...

 I stop what I'm doing
