Gideon's POV
I ran as fast as I could. I ran and I ran but it didn't seem like I could run fast enough. That usually happens when you try to outrun a feeling.
You are not my son. I didn't raise a sissy. I tried to run from my father's words, but it's like they were inscribed into my brain and I couldn't forget it. No matter how fast I ran.
You are not my son.
Panting,I collapsed on the floor and closed my eyes. I raised my arm to wipe the sweat forming on my forehead, but put my elbow over my eyes and left it there.
I looked at my watch. I should return to the house soon. It's almost midnight and I can't stay out this late, especially on a full moon.
But I still couldn't control that nagging voice inside, telling me to keep running and never look back. To take control of my own destiny.
What's the point of going back, anyway? My dad made it very clear that if I ever saw Robbie again,he'd be kicked out of the pack or worse. My dad is kind of a dark force. He doesn't take easily to anger. I don't even want to think about what he might do to me,he's stronger and more experienced in battle. And it's not like I'm gonna fight my father.
And I definitely don't want to imagine what he'd do to Robbie.
The more I thought about it the more certain I was that I needed to run. I checked my watch again. 10 minutes to midnight. I'll never make it back to the house in time. I've gone too far off track.
That was when I looked around. I'm in the middle of the forest behind the house. But these aren't the woods I recognised.
The adrenaline was rushing through my veins, and I quickly got up and started running to no where. A few minutes later I stopped running and just walked. Walked and wandered through the forest.
I felt something crunch under my feet. I looked down to see broken shards of glass. There's someone here.
Which, ofcourse, doesn't help. If I'm gonna turn,I've gotta go it alone. I can't hurt anyone. I picked up the glass and saw blood dripping down it's side. This is not good.
I looked at my reflection. The gold specks in my eyes were starting to overshadow the blue. It's happening. I looked up and saw the full moon. I heard a familiar howl and I realised it was coming from me.
Unfortunately,after that,I remember no more.
The next morning I woke up and looked around. I was still in the forest I was in last night. I sat up on the floor and saw scratch marks on the tree bark in front of me. What did I do last night?
I tried to use my hearing for sounds that could lead me back into the house. The morning bell should sound any minute now. My brother Cedric insists that we have a gong to wake up all the werewolves instead of using alarms like a regular person.
Till then,I decided to wander around. I tried to find the people that left the shards of glass on the ground yesterday, but I couldn't find any living being in sight.
Five minutes of looking around and I realised where I was. This is the vampire layer of the woods. And according to the rules, lycanthropes aren't supposed to be in their territory.
But being in the vampire's den has it's bright side. I know where I am,so I can go back home. I know the directions here. But I'm gonna have to go past their clan house to get back.
How did I get myself here?
I slowly climbed over the fence with as much stealth as a 6 foot 1 teenager could muster. My tiptoeing was so exaggerated I almost expected someone to play Pink Panther.
I crossed the yard and just as I was about to make a run for the woods,I heard a voice behind me. "Hey,who are you?" I turned to see a teenage girl almost about my age with short black hair and gothic features. I immediately recognised her as the clan chief's daughter.
"Someone you're probably never gonna see again,so does it really matter?" I said and bolted. I ran and ran and only stopped once to take a breath.
That was when I heard the morning gong. I quickly ran back to the house and got changed and ready for school in record timing.
I was hungry - how could I not be? I spent most of my night running around and scratching barks - but I was gonna have have to save it for later. I'm gonna be late for first period.
"Hey,Dion." I heard. I stopped and turned on on my heels at the familiar voice. "Hey Robbie." I said, shakily. I dreaded what I was gonna do.
"You want a ride to school?" I took in a deep breath. "I need the exercise, actually. I'll just walk." I lied. "You okay? You seem jittery." He took a step towards me. I stepped back and my back met with the aisle. If I go any further I would be sitting on the counter.
"Have a few ideas of what could calm you down." Robbie took another step forward and put both hands on my chest.
Almost immediately,Cedric walked in and Robbie jumped away. Cedric just gave us the side eye and said,"Don't bother,I already know." And walked out.
Robbie chuckled nervously and turned back around but by then I had already made a run for it. "We're gonna be late," I told him and walked to the door,no longer possessing the energy to run.
I power walked down the hallway and and I bumped straight into my father. "You did the right thing in there. One day, you're gonna understand that this is for your own good." He told me,and patted my shoulder.
I just moved around him and left the house, imagining the 14 ways I could kill him right there.
