Harrison joined the service about three after I did and ever since he's been here we've literally been inseparable, so inseparable that I managed to drag him along with me for my morning runs everyday for two years. They really aren't that hard, but to Harrison he makes it seem like the end of the world.
We were running across the promenade, Harrison following a few steps behind me and heavily out of breath. Just past the icebergs and the beginning of the costal walk, Harrison stopped out of breath. I stopped beside him to catch my breath.
He leaned over with his hands on knees, "I don't know why I say yes to these freakishly long runs, my body is going to give up on me!"
"Oh come on huts, we have to stay in shape anyways so what better way than running literally the entire of Australia?" I joked because the runs weren't that bad.
"Ha ha very funny," he stood up straight and faked a laugh, I rubbed his arm to make him feel better but I'm sure he was too busy trying to control his breathing.
"Come on we're almost done, I know you can do it!" I cheered him on.
"How about I make you a bet?" Harrison said out of the blue, I thought about it for a second then shook my head 'yes' because who doesn't like a little gamble?
"Sure, let's hear it," I replied.
"If you beat me to that post over there then I'll go on these crazy runs everyday whenever you want and never complain," he started.
"I already like the sound of this," I laughed and he just rolled my eyes, "but continue."
"But if I win, then we only do these runs once a week and I get to take you out on a date," this caught me off guard, I never knew Harrison saw me like that?
"Like a date-date?" I asked.
"Yes-" he said unsure just because he didn't know how I was going to react, but I figured what the hell! Harrison is cute, funny and is really lots of fun to be around.
"How about I make you different deal?" I proposed, "instead we don't need run to the post and we can go get breakfast? How's that for a date?"
"That sounds so much better!" He smiled, I laughed as we headed back the way we came and I held onto his arm as we did that, "I didn't know how much longer I was going to be able to last.."
We talked the entire way back and then some, I think this was one of the best runs we've ever had!
