I wake up to my alarm blaring in my ear. Is it time to get up for work already? I turn my alarm off then get up and get dressed. I have been working at the diner for a week now and it is already tiring. But, I like working there with Laura and Ms. Sandra. They are great to work with.
"Jai, will you give me a ride to the diner?" I ask.
"Yeah, sure. But you know, you really should learn to drive so you can start driving your new car." He says.
"New car?" I ask. I didn't know anything about a new car.
"Jai, I wanted to tell her." Dad comes in saying.
"What new car?" I ask.
"Well, I went out and got you a car, I figured you deserve it. When you get the chance, I would like to teach you how to drive it." He says.
"I know how to drive, I'm just scared, thank you. It is probably about time to face that fear. But not today, so are you ready Jai?" I state. He nods his head then takes his keys out of his pocket.
I go up to dad and give him a hug. "Thank you." I say then walk out.
Jai and I drive to the diner and he drops me off. I walk in and Laura gives me a big hug.
"You didn't work last night. I missed you." She says. I laugh then go and put my apron on.
"It doesn't look like it's a busy day today." I say.
"Yeah, so far we have only had one person come in. Oh, and Ms. Sandra isn't coming in today. She doesn't feel too well." She says. I nod my head then go to the cash register and she goes into the back.
Someone walks in and takes a seat at a booth. I grab my note pad then walk up to him. Once I get there I finally see his face and my eyes go wide. I can't believe this.
He grabs my arm and pulls me down so that our faces are just mere inches apart. I can't believe Kyle's brother is here.
"You got my brother in prison, all he wanted is for you to love him." He spits. "He will come after you as soon as he gets out. So I suggest you watch your back." He then let's go of me and then plasters a smile on his face.
"I would like a cup of dark coffee and a croissant please." He says.
"Y-yes, coming right up." I stutter.
I walk into the back with Laura and just hand her my notepad and take a seat on the stool.
"What's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost." She says.
"K-kyle's brother is out there." I state.
"Oh. Did he say anything to you?" She ask.
"Yeah." I say.
"Okay, you sit there and calm down. I will get his coffee and croissant ready and take it to him." She says. I nod my head. I sit there and wait for him to leave, but he doesn't. He just sits there.
"Do you think you could send that other girl out here?" I hear.
"I'm sorry she's busy." Laura says. He wants me to come back out there?
"Where is she?" I hear.
"She's in the kitchen. She really needs you." Laura says. Then the door swings open and Reece comes in.
"Are you alright?" He says, bending down to be at my level.
"His b-brother." I say, and tears start streaming down my face. At first I was shocked, and now that I am in the safety of Reece, I feel better.
"What did he say?" He questions.
"He said all his brother wanted is f-for me to l-love him and that Kyle is going to come after me once he gets out of prison." I say. "He told me to watch my back."
"Alright." He says, then stands up.
"What are you doing?" I say, but he ignores me and storms out of the kitchen. I follow him. He goes straight up to Kyle's brother, Nick and grabs him by his shirt and pulls him up.
"So you think it's alright to come here and threaten her?" He questions. "I got news for you buddy, I am here now, and as long as I can help it, I will protect her from anyone she needs protecting from. Now get out of here." But instead of Nick cowering back, he just stands there with a smirk plastered on his face.
"I will do as I please. Like I said before, my brother will get her again." He says. Then Reece punches Nick. Right in the mouth. He releases him and keeps punching him.
"Reece! Stop!" I say running to him. I grab his arm before he throws another punch. He looks back at me and his eyes soften up and he nods his head. He turns his head back to Nick. If Nick wasn't scared before, he sure is now.
"Don't let me catch you back here again!" Reece roars. Nick hurries and jumps up and runs out of the diner.
"Hey.... I just called Ms. Sandra and she said it's okay if we close early today. I'll clean up, you just go home." Laura says.
"Are you sure?" I ask. She nods her head then brings me into a hug.
Reece and I walk out and get into his car. "What do you think about us laying on your bed and watch your favorite movie?" He says, once we reach my house. I nod my head then get out and walk to the front door. He follows suite.
We go into my room and I go to my closet to grab some clothes. "I want to get a shower first." I say.
"Alright, I'll go ahead and get the movie in." He states.
I get in the bathroom and look at myself in the mirror. My face is tear stricken and the little make up I put on before is now running down my face.
I get undressed and get a shower. I let the hot water run over me for a minute before getting out.
I walk back into my room and Reece is lying on my bed waiting. He looks up at me and smiles.
"Are you ready mi amore?" He questions. I nod my head then jump onto the bed and snuggle as close to him as I can get.
About halfway into the movie, I start dozing off. I have had a long, stressful day. I need the rest. And the best time to sleep is when Reece is right there beside me, able to keep all the bad away.
