This is my entry for Weekly Wattpad Contest #45
My focus flies out of the window the second I sit down. There's that bright light again, sucking me in. I have work to do, projects to complete, essays to write. All things I need to use this computer for. Yet the moment I log in, I am brought to attention the tabs that I had left open. Distractions, I tell myself. I try to establish a sort of compromise. Thirty minutes of work, then ten minutes of entertainment.
But ten turns to twenty, twenty to thirty and soon enough I have lost three hours to the wide expansion of the internet. Three hours I could have used to actually do something meaningful. Something that would have a positive impact on my life. Something real. I've tried to lessen the draw as many ways as possible. Restrict my devices, leave my computer at home, go off of technology entirely.
The real problem arises with the fact that everything requires technology now. That project I need to complete? Done using an app. The work to do? Typed up then emailed. No matter how hard I try, there's always that nagging draw, leading to distraction and inevitably, failure.
Our society has become so tangled in technology that it is hard to escape, and it causes people like me to struggle.
Because I have a screen addiction that I can't seem to get rid of.
