Chapter 13

Megan P.O.V

I leave my house in a rush, not being too concerned of my actions. I drive like a mad woman all the way to the hospital, breaking speed limits, but thankfully not my bones.I get to the hospital and make my way to the Ryans' ward after getting direction from a nurse.

The wooden door has a partial glass opening to view the interior. I peek through it in various angles to see if I can get a clear view of Ryan. I can just make out his face and an oxygen mask. Maybe I should just enter, despite the 'do not disturb' sign at the door.

"ahem ahem". I turn around to see a blonde woman with pretty blue eyes, wearing a large white overcoat, looking like a doctor. With tag that states her name , Amber. She looks at me expecting for an answer.

" I'm a---- just a----friend, wait " I hold my hand up to take a breath to compose myself.

" I'm just a friend and I came here to visit him." I say after composing myself.

" well you look familiar and your visit has to wait." she says with a slight smile.

" and why is that?". I question immediately attempting to boss my way through so she can hopefully let me in.

" well... He hasn't woken since the accident" she says glancing over to Ryan whose still sound asleep. He looks like he needs some rest.oh How the tables have turned. He was just visiting me in this very hospital, and now its my turn to visit him.

" accident? How bad is it? "

" The impact of the blast caused his head to hit the ground, and his brain is yet to respond. For now, we have placed him in a medically induced coma. The timeframe as to how fast or slow he recovers is still not known. Let's hope it works for the best "

" a bomb blast? Like the ones on TV?"

"well yes, but not to such a large a scale."

The only decent guy I met in awhile could have died. Seems like people tend to walk out of my life just when I begin to take notice.

" May I see him?" I ask trying to keep myself together.

"Ofcourse you can, right this way. And before we put him through to the coma he dialed your number last on the phone, I thought you just wanted to know" she says as she holds the door open for me to walk through and hold his phone for me to reach it.

"oh okay thank you." I reply glancing back to Ryan.

It feels different to see him sleep. Usually he looks troubled and tired, those eye bags and the poorly trimmed beard of his.

Maybe this is just what he needs: rest. I could actually a hell lot right now. I'm tired. Just drained out, from everything. I just want to sleep and not wake up and run away from all this. It has to be the one thing I'm good at, but why did he even mention me right before they put him through to coma. There has to be a reason why. Come on Megan, Think.....yes the phone. I search through his phone in hopes of finding something to explain to me what im doing here. I reach the draft section, and there's only one message there which was intended for me.

It said..

Get the clue.

An abrupt thud is heard from the door pulling me from my thoughts and into reality. A tall man with a uniform and brown jacket enter the room, he looks straight at me.

'' who are you kid? "

For a police officer, this guy is really rude. He comes over to glance over at Ryan and mumbles something under his breath, and then he stops and spaces out while looking at me and he looks like he put together pieces of a puzzle

" what's your name? "

"Megan".

" Right listen, I got a phone call right before the blast, and the person on the other line, said you had a clue that can help me get closer to finding this kid Jake".

Who on earth was this other person? And how did he know me?

Now it makes sense. Ofcourse, he wanted me to find the clue. Which is why I was mentioned to Dr. Amber. I close my eyes and try and recall anything that might give me a sign as a possible lead.

" hang on kid, there's more. A ransom is being demanded, and I need to speak with Jake's dad, any idea how I can reach him? We traced his call register and none of it leads to his dad. " he said and looked at the ground as if he was disappointed with himself.

For once I'd be some use to someone.

" well, Jake usually speaks to his dad on his other cell phone. It might be at his place".

" I assume, you know where he lives?" he asks, to which I reply with a simple nod, and the lights in the room flicker for a moment as if its a sign for us to leave and get to work and contacting Jakes dad.

The drive there was quick and reckless. I Nearly puked when I exited the car. The house was just like how we left it, big and luxurious. Yet, very little soul. No photos, or drawings. It was a picture perfect interior. We were welcomed by the cooling mint smelling air that flowed through the house.

2 hours flew by as the cop and I dissected every square inch of the house in hopes of finding a phone.

Our effort were to no avail, as we left the place exhausted and headed back to the hospital. My head hurt so bad from all the thinking that I've been doing.

" I'll be right back, gonna get a quick word with the doc".

I return to see Ryan who seems to be sound asleep, but there is something that caught my eye.

A note that was all too familiar. Was placed at the seat I had sat on.

The same letter with a black ribbon on it.

I hated this feeling. Ever since this stupid letter entered my life it has caused me so much problems. I had enough of this.

With a little frustration, I brace myself , to see what it had to say and to get a rough idea an how more of could mess up my life.

Oh well, here goes.......
