Chapter Four: Earth Is The Insane Asylum For The Universe.
"Bridgette please, open your eyes."
Someone is stroking the back of my hand, caressing gently.
"Come on princess, everyone's waiting."
It was Jace. He was obviously exhausted. His voice was thick and heavy.
"Brena's in the hall pacing. Alec and Colin are rushing over, having been two states away when I called. Reese is here... She's looking over her charts, making sure you're getting the best possible care and nothing less. Alice, she wanted to come. But the kids." He pauses, "I know you wouldn't want them to see you like this... And they wouldn't want to see there favorite aunt like this."
He sighs, I could imagine Jace placing his face into his hands, trying to wipe away his tired eyes..
"And Derek." He chuckles lightly. "To put it simply; he's on his way."
"Just wake up Bridgette, we all need you... So open your eyes princess, because we need you're sarcastic mouth to entertain us."
He chuckles lightly, "We're waiting princess."
Darkness.
~
There are tubes tucked behind my ears, Gently resting over my face, under and in my nose.
My fingers move up to inspect, but they're weighed down by wires and tubs attached to my fingers, hands and wrist. I want to frown, but even making that slightest movement caused pain to arise.
My body feels heavy, its hard to breathe. Then there was the painful thump in my head that seemed to pulse through me.
The sharp persistent beeps around me didn't help. I suspected they were machines, that were recording and monitoring everything wrong, or that could go wrong.
I inhale through my mouth, but my lungs burned with lack of oxygen going in, So I breath through my nose where the tubes gently supply me with usable air.
From what I could tell without turning my head, the walls were painted white, with baby blue accents.
I sigh annoyed with the fact on how well I knew these wall.
But I don't dwell on it.
"You're up."
I couldn't help the small huff of laughter that escaped me, though I could regret it. And I did as the pain sparked through me like fire.
Colin walks slowly toward me, his hands in his pockets, his red plaid shirt was open revealing his white tank.
It looked like he had ran his hand through his hair a few hundred time to many, making his loose curls of hair to become flat, and lay in disarray.
His lavender eyes made my pain settle, made me calm, made me feel safe.
I think... I think he'll always make me feel that way.
I wasn't completely sure I was okay with that fact.
Colin stands beside where I lay giving me a tight smile, he shrugs toward me and nods awkwardly at me, "Jace stepped out. Alice called. Brena, as usual, is yelling at Alec for no reason, Zander and Reese are talking somewhere, and." He bites down on the bottom of his lip and nods absently, "And Derek, I don't think anyone's heard from him, but last we all heard he was on his way."
"Thank you for the update." I smile, my eyes closed as I soaking in the warmth of the light seeping through the slits of the shades over the window.
He pulls a chair next to the bed and sits, his hands clenched over his knee's.
I took notice to his hands, because a few times he had been careless and touched me.
Okay, not like he 'OMG' he groped me. But like he stroke my cheek, or grabs my hand to hold, or rubs my arms, things like that. Affectionate caresses and touches.
Caresses and touches that really pissed Corday off.
Derek had ripped Colin away from me the last time, and slammed him against the wall. Corday was about to connect his fist to Colin's face but I pulled him away, calming him. Or trying to calm him, but really all I was doing was creating a wall between them, and I being the wall Corday didn't dare try and push through it.
But after that, and with the fact that those mindless affectionate touches also pissed off his girl friend, who tried to punch me when Colin tucked my hair behind my ear.
Corday and Colin put a wall between us.
But lets get serious.
Me being me, I did push past Corday.
And since Colin only finds girls to date that are like me, (Yeah Colin don't think I don't notice the similarities between the girl you date and me.) the bitch pushes past Colin and we go at it.
To say the least, Colin did dump the bitch.
He said it had nothing to do with the fight.
But I knew, it had everything to do with the broken finger I came out of the fight with.
Broke it punching the bitch, might I add.
Anyway...
After all that, he made double sure to keep track on where he puts his hands.
"How are you feeling?"
I don't reply.
Though, by how well he knew me, and how well I knew him, I don't think he had expected me to answer.
He nods, sitting down on a chair beside my bed. "You always seem to have something to worry about."
I glance at him, "It's life."
"But it isn't fair."
"I know." I smirk lightly at him, "But its... It's life."
"You're karma seems to never run out." He laughs.
