Just a little backstory before we start lol
(Y/n - your name)
You had just moved into a new ward after your parents had been killed by doves. You missed them a lot but you knew they'd want you to keep going, to keep fighting no matter what, so you did.
You had just arrived into your new apartment not even a week ago. You had unpacked some essential things but most of your belongings were still in their boxes, or cluttered on the floor. You squeezed your eyes shut and whined as you heard your phone ringing. You rolled off of your couch that you were napping on and answered your phone unenthusiastically. You had applied for a few jobs when you moved, but you didn't expect to get any responses so soon. You hit the 'answer' button and raised the phone to your ear. "Hi, is this (Y/N)? I'm Mr. Yoshimura. I'm the manager at The Anteiku Café. I'm happy to tell you that your job application has been accepted and we'd like you to start employment as soon as convenient." You could hear him smiling through the phone. He sounded older, maybe about 70 years of age. You were relatively young still, only 19. You fidgeted with the Rilakkuma charm attached to your phone as you explained that you could come in after school to get started. He told you that it was perfect as he had two other employees coming in at that time that could train you. "If you ever need...food...you can let us know..." he said in more of a hushed voice. You quickly thanked him then hung up the phone and checked the time. Shit. It was your first day at a new school and you'd already be late. You rushed to put on your favourite hoodie and jeans. You stuffed your charger and earbuds into your backpack and rushed out the door, locking it and running to the bus stop.
You soon arrived at school and almost instantly start to get intimidated. You held your backpack close to your chest and waddled awkwardly to your first class. You had English class, which you excelled at in your previous school. You introduced yourself to the teacher and she sat you next to a grumpy looking boy with brown hair and glasses. He glared at you as you sat down and you scooched your chair as far away from him as possible without it looking obvious. Next to you was a girl who looked equally as unhappy to be there. She had shoulder length, straight violet hair and a grim expression on her face. She completely ignored you the whole class, which kind of made you sad. You obviously wanted friends, but no one seemed to give you any interesting glances except for a few girls, who looked at you up and down in the hallway, and whistled and winked at you. You rushed to your next class and sat down next to a relatively harmless kid and his friend, but not before noticing that the classroom smelled slightly of ghoul, as did your previous class. The first kid had orange, spiky hair and was talking happily to the second boy. The second boy just smiled and nodded as the orange haired boy talked. The second boy had dull white fluffy hair and was wearing an eyepatch. You didn't find anything odd about that because you tended to wear some odd fashion accessories yourself. You plopped down and the orange haired boy immediately turned around in his chair and smiled at you. "I'm Hide! This is Ken! You're our friend now!" He held out his hand for you to shake and you took it hesitantly. His white haired friend- Ken, grumbled in protest and refused to shake your hand or look at you. You felt kind of offended but decided that one friend was better than none. As time passed by in class you scanned everyone's faces and tried to spot the ghouls. You knew there was one in there, but you couldn't figure out who, as the smell was only faint.
The lunch bell rang and you snapped out of your daze, and realized Hide was talking to you. You smiled sheepishly and quietly asked him to repeat what he said to you. "You should eat lunch with Ken and I. What do you have for lunch?" You nodded and smiled. "I actually don't eat lunch, but I'd be happy to sit with you guys." Hide smiled and grabbed your sleeve, tugging you and Ken out of the classroom and out the front doors of the school. It was a relatively nice day outside so you had no complaints. Hide pulled a blanket out of his bag and set it down on the grass under a tree, plopping down and pulling you down beside him. Ken sat down too, but farther away from both of you. At first you just assumed that Ken didn't like you but now you might be suspecting that he's just shy. The smell of ghoul still hadn't vanished, but you didn't really think anything of it until you noticed Hide stuff a piece of chicken into Ken's mouth and saw him nearly gag, but he chewed and swallowed it anyways. Was he the ghoul? It obviously wasn't Hide, as he was shovelling food into his mouth at an ungodly rate. You shrugged it off and kept nodding as Hide talked. You occasionally glanced at Ken and every time you did, he was staring at you. You felt kind of uneasy that he was possibly a ghoul and was staring at your general throat area, but at the same time, you were slightly flattered because Ken was a bit cute.
After lunch ended and you all went your separate ways, but you noticed Ken was following you. You thought nothing of it and just kept walking when all of a sudden Ken grabbed your sleeve and yanked you into an empty closet, covering your mouth and shushing you. You tried to squirm and wiggle away but he had a pretty firm grip on you. He leaned in close to you and whispered in your ear. "You're a half breed." It was true, your mom was a ghoul and your dad was human. It was a miracle that you were even born. But how did he know? As if he could read your mind, he continued speaking. "I can smell it. And I want you to know if you even think about laying a hand on Hide you'll be dead before you can blink." You nodded quickly and closed your eyes, taking a deep breath and expecting your fate. You were gonna die. No, you weren't thinking about eating anyone in the school, but you knew Ken would kill and could kill you if he wanted to. He slowly took his hand away from his mouth and pushed you out of the closet, walking to his next class which he conveniently had with you. Art was painful. You just sat there twirling a pencil between your fingers as Ken glared at you. Last period you had a spare and Hide texted you to come sit outside with him so you did. You walked out and sat down on the stairs next to him, smiling weakly and twiddling your thumbs.
School soon ended and you had Hide parted as you walked to The Anteiku Café. You opened the front door and you heard bells jingle, then an old man, who you were assuming was Mr. Yoshimura walked out and smiled at you, handing you a black apron and chuckling softly. You took it and bowed at him, shaking his hand and telling him that you were happy to meet him.
He quickly ushered you to work and you were wiping counters when two other employees walked in. No other than Ken and the violet haired girl from English class. You shivered as you remembered the conversation you had with Ken after lunch. The violet haired girl was introduced to you as Touka, and she immediately shuffled to the back and started to do her own work. You continued wiping down tables as you felt someone grab your hips and push themselves against your butt. You tried to turn around but you felt whoever grabbed you holding in place. You smelled only the Faint smell of ghoul, so you suspected it was Ken. You had started to get used to his weirdness by now so you just kept wiping. "Yes?" You asked, not looking away from your work. "Give me your phone." You heard Ken grumble and stiffen up as you brushed your hand against his crotch while reaching into your pocket to grab your phone. You handed him your phone and he typed something on it, put it back in your pocket, then put two coffee cups down on the table you were wiping. "Sit. Let's talk." You honestly just wanted to get your work done so you wouldn't be fired on the first day, but you sighed and sat down across from him anyways. You glanced at everything in your surroundings but him. You could feel his gaze on you. He wasn't even trying to be subtle. You hesitantly looked at the coffee and dipped your finger in it. "Just drink, weirdo." Ken took a sip from his coffee so you did the same. It was delicious. You didn't know human food could taste this good. You smiled softly and looked down at the round cup in your hand, taking another sip and closing your eyes. "Are you gay" you nearly spewed coffee out of your nose as you heard Ken ask this question. "What?" You said between laughs. "I asked if you were gay. You walk gay." He stares at you with a blank look on his face as you try to hold in your laughter. "The way I walk is perfectly normal, thank you. And my sexuality doesn't concern you." You shot back at him while making awkward eye contact, taking another sip of your coffee.
Of course you were fucking gay, you had rainbow pins all over your school bag and never dressed in anything short of fabulous. Why would he ask such a stupid question. Maybe he was gay too? Maybe he needed someone to talk to? "Okay so we've established you're gay. What's your body count?" He stared at you with his good eye and slowly lowered his eyepatch. There seemed to be nothing wrong with his other eye, so why cover it? "I'm not telling you how many people I've had sex with, perv!" You crossed your arms and he raised an eyebrow at you. "I'm coming over after this." He said matter-of-factly. "Oh no you are most definitely not!" You protested but he just stared at you. He glanced over his shoulder to the back room where Touka was working and then took your hand in his and lost his grumpy facade. He smiled at you warmly and your heart started to flutter. Seeing him like this made you feel special. He obviously didn't like being friendly when other people were around. "When do you get off?" He asked quietly. "7:15." You responded and he nodded, then grabbed his cup and yours, winked at you, and walked behind the counter, continuing to clean.
