Years passed. It was almost my thirteenth birthday. We had gotten new neighbors. They were the Robinsons. A small family of four. A mom, a dad, and two daughters. My mother allowed me to go outside, for the first time ever in my life. I was finally outside of the plain, stone walls of the basement. My mother first introduced me to the backyard. I was awed by the beautiful scenery. Green. I had only seen it as a color crayon. Blue was my colored pencil. It was peaceful. I thought I would never see the outside world. I was scared, yet intrigued. I didn't know what to expect. I wanted to stay out here forever. I never wanted to leave. I didn't want to go back into the isolation of the basement. To be stuck living through the same routine. No.Never again.

My thirteenth birthday came and went. I was allowed to spend more time outside the barren house. My mother sat on the back porch and watched me. My father was passed out on the couch, alcohol bottles scattered all over the ground, table, and on his own chest. My mother had a huge bruise on her face from the time he punched her. She told me that she tripped down the stairs, but I heard the arguing. My father had gotten worse over the years. He sometimes came into my room late at night and watched me sleeping. He didn't think that I was awake enough for me to sense his glare. Eyeing my sleeping form up and down. It terrified me. I was always so scared to imagine what he thought about. I became used to his perverted gaze.

The Robinsons came by a few times. Always dropping off casseroles and pies. They knew my mother needed help, but they didn't know about me. One day, I was out in the backyard chasing after some butterflies. They flew over the fence and I ran up to it. Peeking through the cracks, I caught sight of two girls my age.One had long blonde hair and the other had short blonde hair. The one with the long hair was holding some flowers, while the short-haired one was watching a caterpillar crawl on a blade of grass. I was very curious. I pressed against the old wood and a sudden loud groaning came from it. Both girls snapped their attention toward me and caught sight of my peering eye. I gasped and fell backward. I got up to run when one of the girls called out.

"Hello? Is someone there?" Her voice called with a strange accent

At first I stayed silent, but then the other girl called

"Come out! We just want to talk!"

"Jessica! Don't shout at them! You might scare them!"

"You're going to scare them, Alice!" the girl named Jessica yelled

"Oh really? Well then, I bet they are already gone thanks to you and your big mouth!" Alice countered

"At least I know how to use my mouth, unlike you! Always muttering stupid things under your breath!" Jessica shouted

I couldn't help it. I burst out laughing. I was on the ground laughing at these two idiots. Such children they were! And here I thought they were my age. Arguing over such a small thing. The shouting was silence and I realized that I was being watched through the peephole. Smiling, I sat up.

"Boo!" I shouted, and laughed once more as both girls let out a shriek as they jumped, "It looks like I was the one who scared you!"

"Haha, very funny" The girl with the short hair mocked

"Jessica, don't be rude" Alice hissed

"Right, my apologies" Jessica said

"You're voices are weird" I said bluntly

They looked at me confused

"Your voice sounds funny" They both said

"Mine?" I asked, pointing at myself. They both nodded.

"Oh, that's right! She was born here! You see, we're from England. Where the Queen lives. She's royalty" Jessica said, looking up dreamily

"Yeah that's right! Our dad is from here, America! While our mother is from England" Alice said, nodding her head

"Ok? And?" I asked

"In England they have an accent. It's where are voice sounds different, more proper and polite" Alice said

"Uh-huh, cool" I said as I stood up in front of them

"Want to be our friend? We only have each other and it gets rather boring" Jessica asked

"Sure" I said, I never had a real friend before, this would be rather interesting.
