We had just finished dinner and were heading towards the campfire. Now, I've always had something happen to me at campfires. And I've only been to about five so far. The first couple times, I would get weird looks from guys, or I would trip on my own feet. Then I got claimed. Then I came back from Tartarus, thank you Nico.
Now I was being looked at like I was a ghost, like it was crazy just by me being there. And it was. I grabbed Nico's hand and stopped walking.
"Maybe we shouldn't go," I said quickly. Nico squeezed my hand and pulled me close.
"It'll be fine," he said, looking down at me. I bit my lip, a habit I acquired in Tartarus. Basically, whenever I'm nervous, happy, thinking, or I'm around Nico, I bite my bottom lip. Nico smiled and began pulling me towards the campfire.
"Okay," I said. We took our seats in the front row. Might as well show people I'm alive. I could hear people whispering, and can I just say, everybody here are really loud whisperers.
The Apollo kids began singing and playing their instruments, and everyone stopped murmuring about me and began to sing along. The more they sung, they higher and brighter the flames got. And those two people, Thetis and Josh, sat with us. We were having a good time until she decided to sit with us.
"Hi Nico!" Hunter said cheerily, completely ingoring the rest of us. Nico stopped talking to Thetis for two seconds, waved then continued his conversation. Hunter frowned then sat down next to Nico, pushing me off the bench. Gods, I hate her.
"Shouldn't you be with the rest of your cabin?" I asked as Nico helped me up off the ground. Hunter shook her head.
"Haven't been here a full two weeks yet," she said happily, with a hint of snappyness in her tone. There was only one spot on the bench, which Nico sat in. He patted hit lap, and I sat on him. I could hear Hunter boiling with envy next to me.
Josh looked between Hunter and I, obviously thinking about something. He looked me right in the eyes, and I shot him a look that said 'Get her away!'. He nodded his head.
"Hey, do you mind taking a walk with me, Hunter?" he asked a now startled Hunter. She nodded her head and stood up,along with Josh. He grabbed her hand, winked at me, then disappeared into the woods. Nico eyed me suspiciously.
"He's doing me a favor," I said.
"What favor involves taking Hunter into the woods at night?" I punched him in the arm. He only chuckled. I tried getting up off of his lap to sit in one of the now empty seats, but Nico wasn't letting me. He had his arm wrapped around my waist, giving me a playful smile. I tried to stand up, but he only tightened his grip on me. I sighed, accepting my defeat, and laid my head down on his shoulder.
"Are you tired?" Nico asked. I hadn't realized it but my eyelids were closing, and I was slowly drifting off. I nodded my head then snuggled deeper into Nico's shoulder. He chuckled.
"You guys are absolutely adorable," Thetis remarked. I smiled slightly, still too tired to do anything else. I could feel myself drifting into unconsciousness, and apparently Nico could too. He lifted me up, bridal style, and began to walked towards the Hades cabin. He didn't shadow travel, which he knew I hated and was obviously being generous. How sweet.
Nico opened the door, placed me on the bed, and tucked me in. He kissed my forehead and turned to go back outside, but I grabbed his wrist. He turned back to look at me.
"Don't leave," I whispered. Nico smiled and laid down in bed next to me. I wrapped my arms around his neck and he wrapped his arms around my waist. I snuggled into his chest, warmth spreading throughout my body.
