I know it sounds ridiculous, but this is the type of crap I think of for like no reason whatsoever.
Snakes and Eels have the same body shape. They are basically one long muscle.
They do that weird S-shapes slither/swim thing.
I think snakes are lands eels and I know what you're thinking, what about water snakes?
They're just eels that haven't fully become a land snake and are in the process of evolving into a land eel. Or maybe they're a land eels that misses their ancestor hole of the water and like to go back in it sometimes.
