We stand side by side, kneading the dough
Then step back, to watch it rise
Thoughts run back to times long ago
Just being here is a great surprise
My loaf is simple, plain, easy going
Given enough time and occasional care
It's fully risen before I'm even knowing
All I can do now is look over and stare
Her creation is a far more fickle beast
Requiring time and patience, proof of desire
But with this application, through water, through yeast
It does rise up ever higher
Finally, they're both ready, the waiting is done
We take our first bites and savor each one
