I left the Oikía of that damned Krísi, with her words still echoing in my head.

'I'm entrusting you with the protection of Aurora. You will keep her safe even if your life depends on it. And if you don't like it, then I'll take it up with the Council.'

Screw her. Blackmailing me like that. And for what? Protecting a little runt of a human child? I only turned five yesterday, and my Krísi training has only just begun, so why the hell did she ask me?

I hate this; my first mission as a Krísi, and I get stuck with babysitting a pathetic human. Me! A descendant of the Matovilan bloodline! I should be training to slaughter those villainous and filthy Katharós and Kilída. Humans are mere weaklings that receive our protection unbeknownst to them. Ungrateful bastards. Alas, now I have to join a stupid mortal Skholé, and 'mingle' with all those...ugh I can't even say it.

I'm dreading tomorrow.

I stalked into the realm of Mageía, my hands balled into tight fists. As I tracked my way through the forest, I soon came across Theron, the capital of the Krísi, the warriors of Nemesis. I was proud of my home; spiraling towers and magnificent buildings, all made from polished stone, and colorful mosaics along the walls, depicting all the twelve great wars. We called them the Wars of Kronos.

Just up ahead was the most impressive and decorative building in Theron: its high walls were carved in with scenes of Griffins, Chimeras, Harpies, and at the center of it all, were carved the most beautiful creatures of them all: the legendary Laelaps, and the mythical Teumession Fox. They say that their chase has been going on since Kronos first sliced through the heavens, and only the worthiest of all the Krísi can tame and capture the both of them. That Krísi, well, it's going to be me. I'm gonna make sure of that.

As I walked through the transcendent doors of the Theron Dome, the grand windows reflecting off the last rays of sunshine, burning my vision, I could hear the roar of Drakons in the distance, just waking up from their slumber. One day, I would slaughter one of those wretched beasts of the Kilída. But for now, I would have to train.

I stalked through the doors and into the fiery lighting of the Dome. I passed some of my senior Krísi, bowing my head to them in respect. They did the same to me, for they knew my name and my family's reputation.

As I passed through the dim lit corridors, I finally arrived at one of the training rooms. Usually, training rooms were empty at this time of day, since it was joint mealtime, whether dinner or breakfast for some, that varied on their individual mission schedule. Although today I came across, a boy only a few years older than me, already practicing furiously.

I leaned against the door frame and smirked while I watched him execute his exercise flawlessly. Well, that is until, he suddenly dropped to his knee in exhaustion, huffing and panting as sweat poured down his face. Looking up, he finally spotted me. He returned my smirk.

"Back from your little mission, huh Chloe?" He mocked as I walked up to him.

With the thought of the mission returning to my mind, my blood boiled and my fists once again tightened.

"Got to work on your cardio, I see," I retaliated. However, the boy accepted my hand to pull him up. When he stood up, he was taller than me, looking down into my eyes with his own dark ones. His tan skin glistening with sweat, and his messy light brown hair clung to his forehead. If we were the same age, we would have been like twins. Thank Nemesis that I was only his little sister.

"What's the mission anyway?" Leon asked me, as he put a towel around his neck and took a long gulp of water from his leather water pouch.

"Can't tell," I said, teasing him. He pouted and started to tickle me. I slapped his hands away and got into a fighting stance.
