6 months earlier

Brittany was on her way home from work, another hard day as a child psychologist. Some days were worse than others, today was one of the worst days she had had in a long time. She had ended up canceling her other sessions with her patients so she could deal with one little girl who had been so abused, it had broken Brittany's heart. It was going to take a lot of work and patience with this little girl. She was only four, but had the mental capacity of a two-year-old, because of the abuse. Her mother and father had abused her, and she was in the custody of the state until she could be adopted by a caring aunt and uncle. Brittany had met with the aunt and uncle and had decided they would be good for the little girl, now if Brittany could just get her to say other than yes or no. Brittany was thinking about her case, wondering how she could talk to the little girl without scaring her more and not paying too much attention to the traffic, but when her light turned green at the stoplight, she started to go, only to see too late that a truck had not stopped at the other intersection. He didn't even slow down as he smashed into Brittany's driver door, sending it spinning across the road and into the opposite light post. She screamed, and all went black.

When Brittany awoke, it was to a pounding headache. She opened her eyes to see herself hooked up to machines. A cast on her left arm, and who knew how many bandages she wore. She knew she must look a fright. She wondered what had happened, and then remembered, she had been hit by some idiot who had run the light.

She moaned, looking to the side, seeing her sister Kayla asleep on a pullout couch.

"Kayla?" Brittany whispered.

Kayla awoke and jumped up, running to her sister. "Sis, oh thank goodness. I was worried you wouldn't wake up."

"How long was I out?"

"Just since yesterday."

"What happened exactly?" Brittany asked.

"Some stupid guy was drinking and ran the red light. He hit your car, sending it across the street and into the light post. You hit your head pretty hard, and broke your arm."

"I can feel that," Brittany sighed, "and the drunk idiot?"

"A few scratches is all. He is in jail on a large bond."

"Good."

"I know. I am just glad you will be okay. The doctor said you have a slight concussion, but you should be okay."

Brittany nodded, closing her eyes.

"My head hurts."

"I am sure it does," Kayla said, as Brittany fell back asleep.

Fast forward three months:

Brittany was home in her bed, just barely asleep when she started having the most bizarre dream. Some guy was walking with a beautiful woman on a walking trail. She stopped and looked up into his eyes, a happy smile on her face.

"I know we just met, but I think I am falling for you," she whispered.

He grinned down at her. "I feel the same Vivian," he said, kissing her, and as he did so, he brought a long knife from a sheath at his side, and stabbed her in the back with it.

She cried out, and dropped to the ground, her lifeless eyes staring up at the man.

He chuckled as he wiped off the knife with a hankie, and put it back into its sheath, sauntering away, leaving the woman for someone to find.

Brittany woke up with a gasp, tears in her eyes. That had been too real. From the conversation to every little detail of the man and woman. She shook her head to clear it of the nightmare and got up. There was no way she was going to sleep after that.

Before she went to work that morning, she turned on the news while she ate her breakfast, almost spitting it out when the main story came on.

"Breaking news this morning," the news reporter said. "A woman was found dead this morning on one of the walking trails. It appears she was stabbed to death."

A picture of the woman was flashed onto the screen.

"If you know this woman, please contact the police, since she had no identification on her."

Brittany gasped in shock. That was the woman in her dreams, how was that possible? That was crazy. It had to be a coincidence, didn't it?

Fast forward two more months, and two more murders, unsolved, same motive. Single women off the internet, murdered. It couldn't be a coincidence. But who would believe her if she told anyone besides her sister? They would think her a nut job.

She wished her accident had never happened, that she had never had her head damaged, because how else could she explain her newfound talent?
