"You're sure. Your absolutely sure?!" A man was talking quickly. "Yes. We scanned the body after it was lowered into the mercury. We found a baby inside it's womb. Just an embryo, no more. And it was, remarkably, still alive." The other man shook his head viguorously, that was Dr. Henry Jeckyll. "No. It isn't possible! If I'd known, I wouldn't have done...that. Dr. Mark, will you just let it die? It would be better." Dr Mortis, standing nearby, shook his head. "There's no telling if this child is a living death like her, or a human. There's just no telling. But...we'd be murderers if we killed it now."
They both stared down at the coffin, fully submerged in mercury, and even though the threat of Ahmanet was neutralized long ago, they thought they could hear clawing fingernails just barely from underneath the heavy cover. Henry shivered, then turned away from the scene. The scientist followed, and continued asking him what they were to do. At last, he answered, "Bring it up. This time, tie it's mouth shut then tranquilize it so it's not awake and as capable as it was before."
"And...the embryo?" "Instead of cutting it out, as you were thinking, we're going to leave it in her, as it is safe enough, in the belly of a undead creature. Then, when the stomach swells to it's full capacity at the length of 40 weeks of an average human woman, we will revive the creature just enough so it can give birth. It won't be normal, it won't be pretty, and it will most certainly cause you to throw up your lunch, but it'll work. And it'll be safe. For now."
"For..now? Why not always?" Henry closed his eyes for a second. "Because a mother never forgets. And Ahmanet will be the child's mother. She'll remember everything...down to the last grain of sand of Egypt. Then, and only then will her heart be swayed enough perhaps for us to convince her to rejoin the good, to fight off the monster within."
