Genevieve's POV
As I neared their booth, Minnie got up to introduce everyone. Some of the guys looked a little scary. My nerves were all over the place.
“Genevieve, I know these three look scary but trust me they are giant teddy bears.” Minnie said, gesturing to the two that looked like bikers. “The one with tattoos is Harrison and the other is his little brother, Seth. Next to Seth is Miles, the bouncer. Lastly is my brother Julius.”
One of the brothers, Harrison, scowled at at Minnie, “Really Minerva? Teddy bears? Is that what you think of us?” Minnie's only response was to laugh and stick out her tongue.
Minnie pretty much pushed me into the booth so I sat between her and her brother Julius. I noticed that Julius smelled different, but in a good way, it reminded me of fresh mowed lawn and sunshine. It was as if someone had bottled up the outdoors and made a cologne. I would love to have a bottle of that.
Julius offered his hand, which I took to not be rude. The shake didn't last long because it felt like he was shocking me. I looked at his eyes and his pale blue eyes stared into me. They reminded me of crystals, the beauty of them took my breath away. It was hard to pull my eyes away from his but the intensity soon overwhelmed me.
I reached into my pocket and pulled out my phone to put on the table. I really did not want to miss the Skype call, seeing my family was super important. Julius's voice brought my attention back to the table. Everyone was looking at me. Confused, I asked, “What was that? I missed it.”
Julius chuckled, “I asked what you do for work.” His voice was like a warm blanket I wanted to wrap myself up in it. It soothed me and I felt myself start to relax.
I thought for a moment, “I guess you could say I work sort of part time? I bake two days a week here, once in awhile I fill in at the coffee shop down the street, and once a week I go in to my dad's office to give his secretary a day off. I never really figured out what I wanted to do, so after high school dad helped me set up some investments. Part of what the investments make go into my bank account each month. I have more than enough to pay my cell phone bill, pick up groceries, and whatever else I might need. When I'm not working I'm home baking, sewing, reading, or babysitting my nephews. I don't have much of a social life outside of that.”
“Why is that?” The brother with the tattoos asked. I think his name was Harrison.
I shrugged, “I guess I've always been a homebody. Going out into places with lots of people always made me nervous and I couldn't really enjoy any of it. My brothers and sisters have always been the ones with a sense of adventure, I've always been the one waiting for their return.”
Before anyone could ask anything else, Sean showed up with milkshakes and glasses of water. He set one in front of me. “Oreo for you Miss Gemma. I took the liberty of putting an order in for you.”
“Bacon cheeseburger and coleslaw?” I asked with a grin looking at him. I sensed Julius move closer to me, I glanced at him but turned my attention back to Sean. “Isn't James birthday coming up? Do you need help again?”
A look of horror spread across Sean's face. “Flip a diddle, I totally forgot. Crap. It is later this month. Yes. Yes, I need your help Gracious Gemma. Now I am going to have to spoil you even more when we go out. You just saved my butt.”
“I could just tell you what to get online, we don't have to go out to get it.”
Sean smirked at me, “There is no fun in that, plus it means I don't get to spend a whole day with you. You know I don't take no for an answer, we already talked about this a little bit ago.” I just nodded, tiring of arguing. He walked away still smirking.
