"Okay, babe, I need you to do some things for me today. You need to drop Emily off at soccer practice, pick Billie up from the vet's office, and the house needs cleaning because my parents are coming up for dinner," Chloe said over the phone to her wife who was working in her home office.
"That's tonight?" Beca said incredulously, fiddling with her soundboard.
"Yes! Remember I told you they were coming up to see us once they got back from their vacation?"
"I thought that was next week."
"No, it's tonight. So I need you to be my good little DJ and do those things for me."
"What are you going to do?"
"Well, I've just finished my meeting so now I need to go to the store and get everything we need for dinner then come home and cook. I won't have time to do all of those things so you need to do them for me."
"Okay, I will."
"Thanks, babe. Is Emily ready to go?"
"I don't know."
"Becs, you need to leave in ten minutes!"
"Shit, I do?"
"Yes! Come on, babe, you should know this by now!"
"I know, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'll see if Emily's ready."
"Okay. I'll let you go. I'm nearly at the shops anyway."
"Alright, babe. See you later."
"Okay, bye, baby. I love you."
"I love you, too." Beca hung up then darted out of her home office and into Emily's room where, thankfully, Emily was all dressed up in her soccer gear ready to go. "Oh, thank God,"
"You okay, mama?" The ten-year-old asked.
"Yeah, just making sure you're ready that's all."
"I'm ready!" She beamed.
That was one of many things Beca loved about her daughter. She had the organisation of Chloe. Chloe wanted their daughter to have a hobby and Emily took a liking to music and soccer, which Chloe was VERY happy about as was Beca who was more interested in music than anything else. Emily was a kind-hearted girl with the personality of her mommy Chloe but shared a lot of looks from her mama Beca. She was always chipper and was the apple of both her mother's eye.
"What time are grandma and grandpa coming over tonight?" Emily asked.
"Ah, I'm not sure. I forgot they were coming up actually."
"Mama!"
"What?"
"How could you forget?" She scolded.
"I'm sorry but this is me."
"Yeah, you are pretty forgetful."
"Hey! I'm not that bad!"
"I bet you forgot that I had soccer practice today."
Beca pursed her lips as she looked at her daughter. Emily had a lot of Chloe's traits and picking up on her mama's slack behaviour was one of them.
"Alright, Little Miss Smart Mouth, let's get you in the car and off to practice."
"Mommy says you're picking up Billie today," Emily said as she grabbed her sports bag and walked out of her room.
"Yes, I'll go and get her while you're at practice."
"Will you pick me up afterwards?"
"I think so. Mommy's got to get ready for tonight when grandma and grandpa come over so it'll probably be me."
