"Karma! I missed you!" He says, smiling and extending his arms. I grab something from my bag and point the gun at him, my hands shaking. "Do. Not. Take. Another. Step." I say through my teeth. "I will shoot." "Karma, you know I'm sorry." He says, putting his arms up. "I left for a good reason. You were about to Punish me. I had to leave, to stay alive. Yes, I killed your sister." He said, almost smiling. I wake up mom with my free hand, and she nearly faints when she sees Father. Her eyes then move to the gun, then back to my father. "Karma... I know you have unfinished business with me." He says, closing his eyes. "But let me die in the place of my choice, please, Daughter, Karma, Dear." " You may," I say coldly. We follow him past some trees to a lake and.. the lake.... were we took our happiest family photos. He turns around and says," I'm ready." All of a sudden, I can't. I want to take it all out on him, yell at him for leaving us, end him, anything! But something inside me doesn't want to. He left us! Why do I want to show him mercy? I know my job, emotion or not. Out of nowhere, I drop the gun and collapse. Mother comes toward me and hugs me. When I see my father walking toward me, I grab the gun and say "Do. Not. Move." He immediately backs away. "Leave. Get away from this town. Never come back." I tell him, resting to gun and letting my mom help me up. When I meet his gaze, I repeat myself. "Now." I walk with my mom back to the house and finally notice that the front door is broken. "I'll go into town tomorrow to get it fixed," Mother says, walking inside. We notice that things are moved around, but we think it was just dad walking through. Suddenly, I'm not hungry. I go to my room, put all my stuff away, and fall asleep.
Waking up, I see all of the school stuff waiting by my door. I see an outfit on a hanger, hanging on my doorknob. I pick it up, red plaid skirt, black stockings, white t-shirt, and blue vest. I pick the shoes off the floor, shiny black flats. I go into my closet to change and check my reflection. I see how the skirt fits, the stockings, everything. It disgusts me not to be in an outfit I can choose. I pick up the little brown fake leather bag, already loaded with supplies. I notice the list, and the colors are all optional, so my mom got me black everything. Black notebooks, pens, erasers, pencils, a pencil case, etc. I organize everything and go downstairs. Looking at the clock, I realize I don't have to go to school for another hour, so I make some breakfast. I notice that my mom is awake, on the couch, and I make her some breakfast as well. I hand her a plate, eggs, bacon, and toast, and a fork. I eat my own and realize I still have 40 minutes. I take out my phone and start playing around on my games. Before I notice, my mom is telling me it's time to go to school. She told me she would drive me until I knew the way to walk it.
It was a short drive, and I memorized most of it. Looking at the building, I notice how many people there are. And the burn. Oh my god, the burn! So many Punishments to be given! Then.. cooling? Rewards? Many of them... Hmm..? I counted 6 students, eligible for Rewards. Then I tried counting the Punishments. 27.. 28.... 29.. 29 in total. Good lord... "Karma? You ready to go now?" my mom asks, handing me my bag. Instead of answering, I grudgingly get out, bracing myself. I go to the front desk to get my schedule, reading,"1ST PERIOD ; LITERATURE" I read the room number "09" and head toward that area. Room 16, 15, 14... Finally! Room 09! I walk into the room, slowly, and head to the last desk, back row. The teacher, or so I presume that's who he is. She sits at the desk facing the class, and says "Hello class! I'm Madame Priscilla, your Literature teacher. Let's start with intros!" The class groans and I slump into my seat. The teacher looks at me, in the corner of the room, and says, "How about you? Name, and some things about you. Come over to the front please!" I walk to the front, get ready, breath in, and say, "My name is Karma Kratt. I Punish bad people and Reward the good. I'll always find you." I sit down, and everyone stares at me, awe and fear on their faces. I noticed that the only ones with fear on their faces were the ones to be Punished. Lazily, I give the Punished bad luck, the Rewarded good. I decided that since it is quite easy, those will be my Givings at school.
