Two years after the accident of 2018

Day 1 I found a survivor. That's pretty great. It was getting really lonely. I even had to resort to writing in a journal so I wouldn't lose my mind. His name is Jake. He has blue eyes, black hair, and is about 14, one year older than me. We found a hideout and are staying there for the night. We slept on seperate sides of the room to avoid awkward tension. Tomorrow we are going to find supplies.

"Where are we going to find everything we need?" He said questionably.

"Uh duh there is a store across the street we can get it there."

"Okay, sorry Rose," he said embarrassed.

"You don't need to get so snippy about it."

"Whatever. We've got a lot of work to do tomorrow so go to bed," I said with a yawn.

 "Goodnight Rose."

"Hush Jake. Go to bed." The morning sun came in through a hole in the ceiling and landed right on my face. I woke up to find Jake snoring like a bear. "Get up sleepy head." I said as I rubbed the sleep from my eyes.

"What time is it?" He asked with a groan.

 "5:00 am."

"What?!" he shouted

"I've never been up this early in my entire life!"

"Be quiet or else they'll hear you." I put a finger to my mouth to shush him.

"I'm tired. Can't we go back to sleep for just a little bit longer?" He threw his blanket over his head.

"No!" I lowered my voice before continuing. "I mean no. We have to go now so we don't bump into a crowd of corpses. You can sleep when you're dead."

"Ugh, fine," he whined. "But you have to do all of the heavy lifting today."

We snuck across the street as quietly as possible. The glass front door had already been broken during the outbreak, so it was easy getting in.

"Ok when you get everything you need then come back to the front door. Try to get everything you can in 15 min."

"But what if one of us doesn't come back to the front door." "Than get a weapon and go look for them."

"Got it." he said ready, "but what if they are infected?"

"Then use your weapon and go for the head. I read it in a magazine."

"Ok see you later." he said determined. I quietly stepped around pieces of glass so I wouldn't make any noise.

Jake went the other way out of sight. The superstore was huge and most likely didn't have much supplies left. It had already been pretty much cleaned out by people before us. I snuck around and grabbed cans of food along with kitchen knives and stuffed them into the backpack I was carrying. That's when I saw a bag of chips. I hadn't had chips in a while so I went for the kill. Just as I walked over, a corpse turned the corner and headed right in my direction. I was cornered. I found shelter on the other side of a shelf I slipped a knife from my bag and held my breath to keep from making noises. The corpse walked closer. Just before it could pass the corner, I grabbed a jar of pickles and chucked it over the shelf and away from me. Unfortunately, the throw wasn't far enough to get me out of that situation. I threw two more things to keep it away from me, but that seemed to attract more corpses to my area. I then realized, I would have to wait it out. .... I finally made it out and Jake sat there munching on a donut.
