Skylar put a hand to her mouth and quietly walked towards Luke. He didn't look good. His skin was pale, save for some dark circles around his eyes. There was a sterile white bandage wrapped tightly around his left forearm, likewise, his forehead. Several tubes were in either arm, wires ran from his chest to multiple machines surrounding the bed.
No one knew what to say. Skylar tentatively ran a hand through Luke's quiffed hair. Ashton sighed and put a hand on my shoulder. I could tell he was holding back tears.
The silence was broken when a frantic, middle-aged woman burst into the room. I recognized her to be Liz Hemmings, Luke's mother. She rushed to Luke's bedside without paying any mind to the rest of us.
"My baby," she whispered, gently trying to smooth his hair down. Suddenly, she whipped her head around and glared at us accusingly.
"Who did this to my baby?" she asked shakily, yet firm.
Silence. I looked to Ashton. His eyes were trained on a spot on the floor, his curls dropping down on his forehead.
Finally, Michael spoke up. "It was an accident. I mean, we didn't do it. We're just as devastated as you are. I mean, we're probably not as devastated, 'cause you know, you're his mom. I mean, we are devastated, it's just that-" Calum cut him off before his ramble got too out of hand.
"What he means is that nobody is responsible for this."
Liz pulled a tissue out of her handbag and settled down in a chair, before quickly rising to her feet as a doctor entered the room. He had wiry gray hair and tired eyes. A small sigh escaped his lips as Liz began to bombard him questions.
"Can you help my son? Will he be better soon? Will he be alright?
"Ma'am, calm down."
"Calm down? How do you expect me to calm down when my youngest son is in a coma?"
"Ma'am. Ma'am please, I need you to settle down before I can tell you what I know for sure."
"Alright. Alright, I'm calm," Liz said, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"Okay. We don't know how long this will last. Luke hit his head pretty hard, though we believe that there will be no permanent damage. The surgery went well, however. The piece of debris did not hit any major veins or arteries. We hope that he will be better soon. How soon, though, is the question. In the meantime, we will keep him here, where he can't get into anymore trouble," the doctor soothingly stated.
Liz crumpled back in her chair, sniffling.
"Also, I'm going to have to ask you to leave now, as it's getting late."
"But I just got here," she complained.
"Yes, but it is beneficial for the patient if you visit him in short intervals," the doctor said, as he ushered us out the door.
*****hey guys! sorry this chapter ended kind of abruptly but I couldn't figure out a better ending.
