"Sam, look at me! Do you really think I want to do this?!" Your voice was shocked and tears fell down your cheeks as each word passed your quivering lips. Sam looked up at you with tears in his eyes but refused to let them fall just as he refused to let the one person in his life who made him happy again leave. "I'm-- I'm not good-""(Y/F/N), if you say you're not good enough for me again, I will lock you in a room and make you see how you deserve more than me." Sam's voice was stern as he spoke to you. You opened your mouth again but Sam instantly cut you off. "(Y/N), you can't leave. I- I need you. I honestly need you in my life, I won't make it. Please, don't leave me."
His tears fell without his content as the person he planned on marrying was starting to slip from his grip.
"Sammy, please don't cry. You know I hate when you cry," (Y/N) forced out without a stutter. Sam sniffled as he did nothing to stop his tears. "Baby, ple-please. I don't want to leave you but I do-don't make your life easier... I'm sure I-I don't even make you happy anymore."
Sam stood up and grabbed your shoulders, beyond being confused on why you were even thinking that. He had to lean down some to be eye-leveled with you and it hurt his back but he didn't care, he had too see you face-to-face so you believed him.
"You-- you don't make me happy? (Y/N), listen to yourself; you make me feel like I'm nine again when I had no idea that this was my life. When I had a reason to smile and laugh." Sam's tone was small and sadness waved between his words. You wanted to believe him, why would he lie to you, but your mind told you no. "Listen to me, darling; please don't leave. I c-can't lose you. You make me a better person; you make me a better brother; you make me a better man. You make me want to be a better human. You make me love the-the world when I have every right to hate it. You make me feel safe and calm. You keep me in check when I'm wrong and help me out when I'm right. You make me happier than a kid at Disneyland for the first time."
Sam's words only made you cry harder as you felt your mind drift back to the first time you two met. It was by chance and honestly, if you didn't have the sudden urge to buy beef jerky from the sketchy gas station down the street from your house, you might not have ever met him.
"S-Sam, I-I'm not good e-enough for you. I-I can't even g-go on a simple h-hunt without being t-taken by the thing. I-I'm a dropout from c-college because I'm n-not smart. I couldn't e-even be there when you n-needed me when yellow-eyes t-took you. Sam, baby, y-you deserve someone better than me," You whispered as you leaned your reddened cheeks into his hands, tired, body aching.
"What- what if I don't want better? What if-if I want you?" Sam suggested seriously, "What- what if I want you and your limited brain? What if I want you and your bad hunting skills? What if I do want you and your clumsiness? What if I want you only?"
Sam took one of his hands from your face and dug into his jacket pocket. He pulled a small red velvet box and held it out to you to grab. You let a sob out as you opened the box to see the ring you pointed out to Sam forever ago. It wasn't the biggest diamond and it wasn't the most expensive ring but you loved it. It was a black band with a 5.0 millimeter clear diamond with a separated plain black band.
"S-S-Sa-Sam." You couldn't finish your sentence before you were sobbing loudly into Sam's shirt. You dropped the box, but Sam caught it, as you wrapped your arms around his neck. You just nearly pulled yourself away from the only man who made your life worth living, who made you smile again. Maybe you were stupid. "Y-y-yes- yes, oh my god, yes!"
Sam was smiling as he wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you closer to him. After a second, he pulled your left arm off of his neck after he took the rings out of the box. Carefully, he slipped both of them onto your ring finger. You held your hand out and admired the way the small lamp light hit the diamond, Sam looking at it too.
"I said I couldn't lose you when we first met, and I still mean it," Sam muttered as he turned his face back to you. The smallest smile was on his face while his tears came to a stop. Tears still ran down your face but you didn't make a sound. Sam gently grabbed your cheeks with his hands and pulled you closer. "I plan on keeping you with me until the next life, and I promise to find you then too."
Your lips parted slightly and you pushed them against Sam's thinner one in a way to say thank you. Sometimes it's okay to listen to your brain, but there are times where you should listen to your heart instead, you just learned that the hard way.
"Is- is this normal? Do people propose like that?" A small voice asked the man next to him. Dean sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.
"No, Cas. No, they don't." Castiel's deep-set eyes stared at the two people who were just crying and scared of what was going to happen next to being engaged and kissing. "Humans, I tell you, are weird."
