Someone to you- BANNERS
I had wanted to sleep for the entire Christmas break but my best friend Sav had other plans for me. She cornered me while I was coming out of yoga class and told me I had to help her with a little project she had planned for the break. Knowing Sav, a "little" project tended to mean something that would take a good portion of my pre scheduled sleeping time to do. I told her no and tried to sneak around her but she gave me the I'm your best friend don't you dare walk away from me because I have ugly photos of you from ninth grade look.
Sav ultimately got me to help paint her and her boyfriend Drake's apartment by pulling the 'you're my best friend and I just want to hang out with you' card. She had also promised to go get pizza from Pepper's for dinner later that night and bake me her 'better than sex' triple chocolate cookies. What she didn't tell me, however, was that she also talked her older brother Harley into helping too. I knew she left that information out on purpose. She knew that I'd had a major crush on her brother since we met in 5th grade and was outrageously awkward around him.
He was in 7th grade and an extremely nerdy kid. Harley would straighten his naturally curly hair to try to fit in more. I loved his messy curls even then. I never would've told him that then, not that it would've impacted his decision. He would always bring me his juice he got with his lunch at school when I went to their house after school and I was pretty much hooked on the boy after that. I wasn't a hard girl to please.
When we were all in high school together it was hard for me to watch him date other girls. I dated around but never had a serious boyfriend. None of the guys I dated compared to the one I really wanted. It wouldn't have been fair to them. He was still a nerd who liked comic books and cried once during the ending of the Notebook. He had grown into an extremely hot nerd though. He was on every sports team he could be and got really fit. He still gave me juice whenever he saw me, he'd buy bottled juice and keep it in the fridge for me. Savvy knew I liked him but never made me feel bad for it.
Harley was 25 now, two years older than us, and had taken over his dad's bar when he had passed away unexpectedly two years ago. Sav and I had taken the college route and were in our final year. Sav would start veterinarian school and I would hopefully find an editing job that had to do with my degree in English. It was the only thing that sounded interesting to me when I started college so I just stuck with it.
I felt Sav elbow me in the ribs and I yelped and glared at her.
"You looked like Bambi in the headlights. It was actually getting a little concerning," she whispered to me with a laugh. "But seriously Kam, I suggest closing your mouth, you'll catch flies."
I had every right to look that way. Harley was facing the opposite direction with a paint roller in hand, shirtless. He was covered in tattoos that were either beautiful or comedic and I wanted to trace every single one. For fucks sake the guy's back was a turn on to me. He looked like he was sculpted to look like God himself. Then he turned around and I knew I was fucked.
"Hey Skippy," Harley smirked at me. I bit the inside of my cheek and looked at the ground, embarrassed that he caught me gawking.
"Hey Harley. How's the bar?" I squeaked and looked back up.
Harley set the paint roller down on the paint can and wipes his hands on his paint splattered grey sweatpants as he sauntered over to me. He brushed his messy black hair out of his face and pulled me into a hug. I tensed up for a second before wrapping my arms around him as well. I'm not sure if it was the fact that I was pretty much in love with Harley or if he really just gave amazing hugs, but everytime he hugged me it felt so calming and safe.
