~River's POV~"What the hell?!" Cinder spat.
"How?!" Amber growled.
"I don't know, Amber!" I said, sighing. "It's complicated."
"Veronica targeted the wrong person! How is it that complicated?" Cinder said, meeting my gaze. "And even worse, she forced the deal!"
I looked at my friends, finally speaking. "I say we check things out."
~Alisa's POV~
I sighed, walking into Ashley Waters. A girl flew past, knocking me over. She stopped, whipping around and helping me to my feet. She had light blue eyes and platinum blonde hair.
"I'm so sorry!" she said, panting.
"Come on, we gotta go!"
The girl turned to see her... friend? She had amber eyes and auburn hair.
"Cinder, come on!" she said.
The other girl- Cinder- nodded and ran to her friend. I glared at the girls as they ran inside the building. Really?!
I sighed, shaking my head. I grabbed my backpack and went inside. It was the first Friday of the year, and my third day of school. I was NOT looking forward to today. It was Friday! I was tired, and with the weekend so close... It was like it was taunting me! After all, the past few days were... weird. Yeah, we'll go with weird. I reached into my pocket to grab my phone.
Wait.
My phone wasn't in my pocket. I looked through my backpack, and all my pockets. I took a deep breath. It's fine, you probably just left it at home. But as the day continued, I found myself doubting it more each second. Just as I was heading into the gym, the fire alarm started blaring.
I muttered, "Come on, it's last period."
A girl next to me- a girl with light green, startled eyes and long blonde hair- jumped. The coach(who I still haven't bothered to learn the name of) yelled at us to stay calm and exit calmly. Of course, no one listened, pushing and shoving to get to the exits.
The blonde girl from before ran out of the gym. Not outside, but into the school. I decided I had to run after her, following close behind.
"Wait! Stop!" I called, eyes wide. "We need to leave! What if it's an emergency?"
She didn't respond, didn't even falter.
She ran through the halls, me on her heels. If she wouldn't leave I could at least make sure she was safe. Suddenly, I realized where she was running. I don't know why, but I knew we had to keep running, to get there as fast as we could. To the second floor balcony.
That's it, I was going insane. I almost laughed. The second floor balcony! Why would I ever need to go up th- what?
