Of course, they were shocked.
"Kate's mother? Isn't she dead?" Aidan asked, talking to Vanessa.
"Apparently not," Vanessa said, studying the woman closely. Kate had the woman's features no doubt about it, but it seemed like Vanessa couldn't trust her.
Kate's 'mother' kept petting Kate's hair as Kate was unconscious. Then she left. just left.
"It felt like..." Vanessa started, "like, she wasn't honest."
Aidan scoffed, "my gosh, Vanessa. It's Kate's mother."
"how would you know?" Vanessa asked, "oh wait, you're a stalker."
A few minutes after, Kate rubbed her head and Aidan and Vanessa were alerted the second she woke up. Aidan's heart almost beaten out of his chest and Vanessa breathed heavily with stress.
"wha-what happened?" Kate asked, looked at the tubes connected to her arm. Vanessa chuckled and shallowed hard.
"Car accident."
Kate's eyes opened widely. She went to get up, but once again, she laid back down because the pain was too much to handle.
"How about my sister? My dad?" Kate groaned, the medicine kicking in.
"They're okay."
Kate turned to the side, facing the two teenagers.
"why are you here?" she said, weakly pointing to Aidan.
He ignored her question.
"hello?" she waved her hand frantically.
"Because."
"I'm in a hospital bed, so tell me."
"what does that have to do with anything?"
"stop fighting it, Aidan." Vanessa said, "he cares."
Kate raised an eyebrow, "yeah, when I die."
"I do."
"no, you don't"
"stop acting like an old couple." Vanessa laughed.
"anyone come to visit?" Kate asked.
"your mom?" Vanessa said.
"my mom?" Kate said, laughing, "she's dead."
"no," Vanessa said, "your real mom."
"nope, I don't care about her." Kate stated.
"you do." Vanessa said.
"You don't mean that," Aidan said.
"who invited you here?" Kate asked Aidan.
"look," Aidan said, "I know you liked me."
"liked." Kate stated.
"and I liked you. I still do."
"lies. like everything else," Kate said, "it's like that's the only thing you can do."
