Chapter 1
The wind, that’s all Asum could hear. The wind whistling through his ears being accompanied by the sound of the forests leaves being crushed from Asum’s bare feet. He turned his head to search for his pursuers. He couldn’t see them but as he slowed his pace he could hear faint shouts of anger, telling him that if he was going to lose them, it had to be now. He picked up his pace again but turning his attention to his hands that were bound together by some simple thick rope. He began trying to loosen the ropes by wriggling his hands, seeing if he could get any leeway.
As he began to feel the ropes slightly loosen, he felt something wiz by his ear. Looking back to see what it could have been, his question was answered by another arrow cutting through the air being directed right towards him. Luckily while he was turned around he tripped, letting the arrow pass right over him. Acting quickly, he got to his feet to make his way behind something to provide cover while he catches his breath. Swiftly making his way to a fairly good-sized rock, he felt a sharp pain hit him in his left leg. Trying to recover from the pain, he threw himself over the rock, hearing an arrow hit the rock where he just was.
As soon as he landed safely on the other side of the rock, he took a look at the arrow that hit his leg. The arrows head was all the way in his leg so all you could see was the shaft. He hesitated but bit down on his shirt and began to pull on the shaft trying to get the arrow out. The pain was unbearable but he knew he couldn’t just leave it. He loosened his jaw to get a moments breathe, then bit back down and yanked it out. The searing pain was over whelming. He quickly ripped most of his shirt off and tied a knot around the open wound that was bleeding severely. As soon as he finished up with the knot he heard the crunching of the leaves approaching the rock. Searching frantically for a way to escape, Asum got into a crouching position but fell over at first from the pain in his leg. Trying again he pushes himself up into position making sure to keep the pressure off his bad leg but before he could search for a escape route he turns to find himself face to face with an archer.
Asum took in every detail of the archer that he could but the cloak hid most of the details. The archer was slim and small but still looked like he had plenty of muscle, the cowl concealed the face but you could tell it was a male by his hairy arms and big hands. Asum could tell that this guy wasnt one of the men chasing him.
Asum slowly started to stand up "Lets take it easy now, I'm already wounded. No need to do anything rash." He tried to say as convincingly as possible.
The archer took a step foward, obviously trying to look superior "Don't try to manipulate me, now why were those men chasing you?" The archer demanded but still showed his uncertainy in the shakiness in his voice.
The archer was obviously not used to these type of encounters and seemed kinda young so Asum took advantage by slowly inching foward as he continued to speak "I dont see why it matters, youre not one of them. How about if you tell me why you're here, and ill tell you why im being chased hmmmm?"
The marksman's hands lowered slightly as if thinking about the offer but quickly raised them back up "Why should i? I dont have to explain myself to you" He practically shouted.
"You could kill me in a split second, whats it going to hurt?' Asum questioned in an innocent tone.
He noticed as he finished the sentence, the archer lowered his hands yet again but this time they stayed low for a little longer, then he spoke with what seemed like a curious voice "I thought you were an escaped criminal, and they have bounties on their heads so i thought i could make pa proud by bringing in a little more gold. You dont act like other criminals so why were those men chasing you?" He tried to sound a little more forceful at the end.
Asum realized while the archer was talking that he was just a young boy, no older than 20. Focusing in back on the conversation he answered the young boys question, "Ill admit that those men were officers but i was wr-" he was cut off by angry shouts that were really close. Both of them turned toward the yelling to see who had found them. While the kid was looking for the people, Asum took advantage of this and closed the last few feet between the two and latched on to the bow. Catching the boy off guard, it was no big struggle to rip it from his hands and shove him to the ground.
"Hey, what do you think you're doing?!" The boy exclaimed, sounding slightly betrayed.
"Sorry kid, i gotta get out of here before they get here, keep your mouth shut and ill return this to you as soon as possible" With that, Asum began to limp as fast as possible away from the shouts that would be there in any second. Turning back to make sure the archer wasnt gonna add to the chase, he noticed that the boy had already disappeared as if he was never there. Asum brought his focus back to escaping by looking for a place to hide or something to get the guys off his tail. Becoming frantic, he began to think he'd be caught again, but as he started to give up hope he stopped. He thought he could hear something between the mens shouting. As soon as they all fell quiet Asum knew what he heard and that was going to be his way out of this mess. He quickly shuffled his way across the forest floor towards the noise he had so desperately needed. He then soon realized while he was focusing on one noise he forgot about the noise coming up on his rear. Stummbling foward as he tried to look back, he noticed they were closing in, and fast. They were close enough that he could tell them apart while they were in uniform, but shouts were becoming harder to hear as Asum finally reached his destination.
The roar of the waterfall drowned out any noise that was happening around him. He tossed the bow into a nearby bush and swiftly hobbled into the river the dispenced its water off the cliff. Trying not to be swept off his feet and ignore the pain in his leg, he finally got knee deep and sank down into the water, gripping onto a boulder that was wedged into place by the water current. He couldnt make out specific figures but he saw shadows of people close by the shore of the river. He wasnt sure if they knew he was their or not so he tried stay as still as possible given the circumstances.
After what seemed like an agonizing few minutes of being battered from the current, he saw the shadows start to move up stream. Taking his chances of them not turning around, he began to stand but he lost his balance and put preasure on his bad leg which gave way do to the pain. Being thrown into the water, he found himself unable to grab anything or even find which way was up. He kept grabbing things but the binding ropes reduced his reach and he was moving to fast towards the edge that his grip would slip. Panic began to rise in his chest as he knew the waterfall wasnt far. If he didnt get out soon, hed be thrown off the edge. Making one last attempt he grabbed onto a sturdy rock and he could feel his nails dig into the rock in desperation to stop his momentum. He felt himself slow down and he began to feel safe again but the rock began to give and he could feel it becoming loose. He felt the fear strike right back up again as the rock began to shake more and more from the current yanking it out of place. He knew it was coming but he wasnt ready, the rock finally came free and Asum was sent back into the torrent. The water suddenly stopped, he felt as if everything just stopped but a split second later he felt himself start to fall. Plummiting towards the water below, he began to flail in the air. After waiting for it to finally end, he felt a smack then a wave of nothing but pain everywhere in his body. He began to feel everything ease away as his vison blurred. Then finally darkness came.
So that was Chapter 1, i hope you guys enjoyed it. If you have any suggestions, feel free to let me know and ill try to have chapter 2 out sometime later this week.
