In which Mike visits the cabin for the first time, ever.

El had to beg Hopper for weeks, insisting nothing would happen because she wouldn't be going outside, Mike would be going to visit.

But, he reluctantly said yes after she begged, and he made some ground rules, as he had to go to work that day and work through the night.

Rules

No going outside, not both of you, or one of you, nobody leaves.

No kissing, no touching, no nothing.

Like always, only open the door when you hear the knock you made with him.

Simple enough, or well, most of them were, one of them might just be a tad difficult.

El woke up the morning of the visit to the smell of coffee, Joyce had bought him a coffee maker so he didn't have to pay for coffee every morning, and he was clearly waiting so he could say goodbye before he went to work.

She got up and dressed, and walked out her bedroom door, to see him sitting at the table, reading. Reading of all things, waiting for her, probably to tell her once more what the rules were.

"I have to go, but remember the rules are--"

"Only open the door on the special knock, no kissing, and no going outside. I get it. Now, you go, I'll be fine." she smiled softly, surprised she didn't stutter over any words.

He just grinned, rustling her hair, before he threw on his hat and went out the door.

"See you later, kid." he said, as the door clicked shut behind him.

Then she was alone, seeing how dusty the cabin was, and knowing Mike was coming to visit, she had to clean up.

So she sweeped up the dust, coughing a few times, while Queen played on in the background.

She finished cleaning and collapsed on the couch, just laying there, switching through channels to find something remotely interesting, as time seemed to drag on.

But finally, the secret knock came at the door. Three knocks followed by five, then three again.

Unlike how she was with Hopper, how she would just use her powers and he would walk in, she stood up from the couch and rushed to the door, unlocking each lock with extra care, until the only one left was the door lock itself.

She opened the door to Mike, who had a grin on, which seemed contagious, as she didn't even realize her lips curled into a grin.

She immediately invited him in, and when he got inside, she engulfed him in a bear hug, and he returned it, hugging her tightly.

"I missed you." he mumbled incoherently into her chestnut hair.

"I missed you more, it's boring without you." she said as the pair released, and she felt her cheeks becoming rosy.

They didn't really have anything lined up for the afternoon they were going to spend together, and they couldn't leave the small cabin, so they had two options.

Reading, or TV, and El would much rather go on a bike ride with Mike, but the pair just ended up sitting on the couch watching TV.

But El didn't focus on the TV, she was focusing all her attention on the raven haired boy sitting beside her, and the freckles on his face, there had to be millions she swore there were. She mumbled quietly to herself, Hopper had taught her all the numbers from 0-100, and she was up into the 40s when he looked over at her in confusion.

"What are you doing?" he asked, tilting his head to the side comically, as she turned red.

"N-nothing." she choked out, burying her head in the pillow next to her.

"No, it wasn't nothing, what were you doing?" he chuckled, snatching away the pillow to make her look at him.

"I was counting your, your," what was the word?

"What? My freckles?"

"Yes." she said quietly.

He broke out into a laugh, she was just so sweet, his heart beat a mile a minute, and a smile was growing on her face, her cheeks getting redder by the second as he laughed, she loved when he laughed.

And she was really ready to break a few rules at this point, just so focused on him, so what if she got in trouble later.

So she was impulsive, and when he quit laughing, she pulled him in, kissing him. She cupped his cheeks, feeling them become warm. She smiled into it, releasing after what felt like a piece of forever.

She couldn't help but giggle, shocked she did that, but proud of herself for doing it.

When she looked at him and they made eye contact, her eyes darted around his face seeing how red his cheeks were, mixed with his freckles, making her just blush more at the sight of him, he was so perfect.

She kind of expected Hopper to bust through the door at any given second and bust them, because she'd just broken one of his rules, but he didn't, and she was relieved.

The pair cuddled together, El laying her head on his chest hearing his heart thump in his chest, and she would occasionally reach up and kiss him on the cheeks, or the nose, or well, anywhere on his face, just trying to see how red she could make him whilst at the same time being absolutely infatuated.

El woke up startled, the sound of Hoppers secret knock at the door, him cursing as he tried to look through the blinds.

"Shit." she muttered, opening her eyes wide, seeing her and Mike had fallen asleep.

"Mike!" she whisper yelled, and he woke up.

"Hopper is home, if he asks, we did not do anything, got it? I think he'd kill you before me..." she trailed off, a trickle of blood leaving her nose as the door locks clicked open, and Hopper walked in.

"What happened?" he asked, almost butthurt about having to wait for her to open the door.

"Fell asleep." she said, yawning, and he nodded.

"Well, Wheeler should get going, you guys lost track of time, it's nearly 7 o'clock, I'm sure Karen is flipping her shit by now." he chuckled gruffly, and Mike nodded. Before Mike could stand up, El hugged him tightly, as if she wasn't going to let go, and he didn't want her to, or he wouldn't have wanted her too if it weren't for the police chief who could throw him in jail at any second looming over them.

"I'll see you soon." he reassured her as he got out of her grasp, air finally returning to his lungs after the rib crushing hug she engulfed him in.

"Promise?" she asked sweetly, with puppy dog eyes.

"I promise." he smiled.

With that he had to go, and he went out the door, just barely missing the tripwire, he just barely managed to jump over it, before looking back at El who was standing in the door frame, smiling, and riding his bike home, still focused on her.
