You know when when your world slowly crumbles down, and you can't seem to stop it? No? Have you ever been in a car accident? The fraction of a second before you know you're going to die is terrifying. My last glance at the world before everything went black was seeing his jaw tighten in concentration, his muscles veering the steering wheel sharply to the left side bank.
My face was streamed with fresh tears, I had been arguing with him again.
I was ready to die.

The ICU unit was in a chaotic flurry of despair. A young woman's heart beat just stopped. The nurses and the doctors used the defibrillator on her bruised chest. The car accident was the severest they had ever seen, and the driver escaped with minor cuts and bruises. How was it possible that one person sustained so little injury while the woman had a concussion, three broken ribs and the internal damage to someone who should be dead?
No seat belts.
Her so called husband wouldn't leave her side, but the nurses tittered in the staff room that neither of them had wedding rings on their fingers.
No one would question someone like Alexander, his money and power over New York scared everyone away. Alexander often stroked her hair while she was hooked up to the many tubes that essentially kept the young woman alive.
They kept pounding on her chest, until there was a heartbeat. All this time Alexander was screaming, tearing at his hair and attempting to hold her hand. It caused him so much distress to think that Evelyn would never be in his arms, forever faded into oblivion that was called death.
The security guards had to roughly restrain him until he was comforted with the sound of Evelyn's heart.
Once the nurses were satisfied with her heart rate, they poked another round of needles in her smooth porcelain skin. Alexander made sure that once she wakes up- if she wakes up- He would pursue her until she loved him.
In Alexander's eyes she was an angel, who just had broken wings.
She was his angel, she just didn't know it yet.

"Is it safe to take her home doctor?"
"She's comatose. I advise you to wait until she's discharged first-"
"How long? It's been six weeks." His voice hissed at the paling doctor.
"About three days. But, we cannot control that, is she wants, she would wake up today and you can leave with her. We have weaned her off the drugs but you're going to be careful with her"
Alexander nodded in excitement. Evelyn would wake up! Her eyes would finally open revealing her crystal blue eyes.
Evelyn.
"Excuse me, there's a patient waiting for me, feel free to sit with Evelyn." The doctor walked away with the clipboard in his hands.
Alexander's footsteps echoed throughout the empty hallway. The thought of Evelyn waking up in the next 72 hours was overwhelming.

The familiar hospital suite was almost welcoming to Alexander. Evelyn had her hair braided into a braid that one of the nurses redoes everyday. Her dark lashes gently brushing against the lilac coloured cheekbones from the bruises.
His hand reached for her normally cold palm to find it a warmer temperature than ever before. "Wake up Evelyn. Wake up baby, I'm here." His fingers laced through her own and started to gently massage her hand.
