The song "True Friend" by Miley Cyrus can be related to Emerson's statement relating to the American Dream because it's all about what it means to be a true friend. From the song, I took away the meaning that a true friend is someone who has accomplished the act of being themselves in a world that is constantly trying to make you someone else. This is because, like Miley Cyrus sings, "True friends know the secrets you could never tell, and when you're quiet, they break through your shell." It is so important to have true friends in life, inferior to fake ones because they are some of the few people who you are comfortable around; the ones you can completely be yourself around without being self-conscious in the least bit because you know they're not there to judge you, they're simply there to have fun and laugh and make memories with you. When you are with your true friends, you have succeeded in being yourself because it comes so naturally you don't even realize you're doing it. You're being you, not someone somebody else wants you to be. True friends bring out the best in us, whether we want to admit it or not.
