Chapter 10.
I'm completely dry now and Liam gasps in shock as my tail changes back into my legs.
"I-I thought they only existed in fairytales and myths..." He stutters, "But you. Just. Did. That. In. Front. Of. Me."
"Yeah, uh...so did I, until today. Calm down Liam, I'm still Hannah!" I reply.
We sit on the bed whilst he continues to ask me questions about the scales and stuff, and eventually sleep takes it's toll and the two of us end up crashed out on my bed.
My sleep tonight isn't blissfully dreamless like the last and I am haunted with images of being trapped in the water, sinking slowly but trying to swim upward...Which eventually fails when my legs give out.
I wake up gasping for air.
"Hannah? Whats wrong?" Liam asks, half awake.
I'm still recovering. "Just a dream." I tell myself, and Liam.
There's light filtering in through the half closed curtains and I can tell it's the early hours of the morning.
"I don't think I can sleep anymore." I tell Liam as I slide off the bed and search around for my dressing gown.
Liam decides to get up too and I head into the kitchen to make some breakfast whilst he gets changed.
I rummage around in the cupboards for a bit and absentmindedly find something to nibble on.
When Liam walks into the kitchen he gives me a weird look.
"Hannah..." He says in an even tone.
"Yeah?" I ask, I wonder what's wrong now...
"Um...Why are you eating dry seaweed?"
"What?" I look down and see the packet rested in front of me.
"Umm, no idea." I reply, just as confused as he is, I've never liked dry seaweed before, but this morning it's tasting amazing.
I take the box of seaweed and place it back in the cupboard, "Who wants toast instead?"
Liam laughs, "Do we eat anything else for breakfast?"
The toast tastes nowhere near as good as the seaweed, which is an odd surprise, but I eat it without making any fuss. Maybe that's a change that Ainslea was hinting at... A complete change in diet.
Half way through eating Liam looks up at me and chokes.
"Oh my gosh, are you ok?" I ask, as he clears his throat.
He nods, before putting his piece of toast down.
"I don't know why," He says, "But this morning you look a little different."
"I do?" I ask, maybe I've got a bad zit or something.
I rush off to the bathroom, peer into the mirror and quickly realise what he is trying to say.
I stare at my reflection in the mirror.
Is it just me, or has my hair grown 15 centimetres overnight?! That is quite a growth.
Then I glance at my eyes.
They still look the same blue as they usually do, but they have never had green flecks in them.
These must the other changes Ainslea wouldn't tell me about.
I run back to the kitchen and confirm to Liam what he suspected.
"Ainslea, this Mermaid girl I met yesterday, she told me that I would change a bit, and I think these are what she was implying.'
He looks up at me.
