Servant Of The Stream

Chapter One

~VENELOPE~

"Okay Ally, focus." I whisper, as we walk through the damp forest. "You need to be in control of your phasing...okay, for training, you need to think of your maddest moment. Something, or someone..." I stand braced, ready for the worst. This was Alanza's first training...her first phasing...

 "But I have never been angry at anything. I try to stay happy otherwise I appear claws and teeth...sharp teeth." she says.

 Unable to speak it...I think...What about the day mother was killed, when we couldn't save her. When the bloodsucker killed her...brutally...I know you were only young...eight... Us werewolves have no privacy in our thoughts...

 "Yeah, well we both know we couldn't have done anything, that vampire was over two thousand years old. Besides Papa hunted him down and killed him and in the mean time..." Alanza sobs "You see, hating things just gets you..." she pauses and a large flash of purple light exerts from her body as a wolf takes her place.

 "Alanza!!" I yell. "Calm down!!" I run up to her and tackle her, instantly phasing. She falls to the ground and de-phases. "Are you okay?" I ask softly, once I phase back to normal.

 "What. What happened. Will that happen again? How..."

 "When you're upset, or angry, you phase. Until you learn how to control it, you need as less contact with humans as possible." I explain.

"But Lea shes my best friend and shes human."

 "Well...if you want to spend time with her without hurting her...you need to contain it. Andy, my boyfriend, is also a human. I was able to control myself before my sixteenth birthday. I almost ruined my cover at school one day. There was this girl, and we got in a fight, because she was honestly a royal bitch, and I just got away before I turned. At your age, there are alot of people that can make you mad...maybe we should go away to Ferana for some training for some time away from school." I try to persuade her, but my the look in her eyes, I knew she was not happy about leaving Lea.

 "I cant just up and leave I have a life a perfect attendance record, a crush" she turns bright red for telling someone her personal life. "Teach me, right here right now I want...I need to learn to contain this...thing."

 I sigh. "It will take longer than a day Ally. You just need to be careful at school for the next week. We'll train every afternoon." I give her a quick kiss on the cheek, sling my bag over my shoulder and run through, deeper into the forest.

~ALANZA~

"Wait for me" I call phasing with a paler light and chasing you with ease.

Venelope looks slightly over her ginger coloured shoulder, and sees me panting up behind her. Dust covers her clear white paws as we run into a clearing. Three rabbits sit peacefully eating grass in the outskirts of the clearing. 'C'mon little sister. Time to feed Father.' she laughs.

 I pant and laugh in my head 'We have an awesome way of communicating.' I think.

 Elle commando crawls closer to the family of rabbits, and I see the biggest's ear pricked up...she pounces. Her teeth sink into the biggest's neck, and I take care of the smaller ones. 'Good job.' she thinks, smiling. Well...at least as close to smiling werewolves can get to.

 'Thanks' I think. I see something move ahead so I crawl along the ground towards it against my sisters will.

As I crawl along the ground, Ella steps forwards once, and gets ready to pounce on any danger that may be lurking about.

 "Go away, Ella I mean it its a deer, and I want it."

 She laughs. 'Just making sure little sister.' She sits on the damp grass, as she watches me.

 As I creep forward, feeling my shoulder blades rubbing together, the doe comes into view. I take a deep breath and pounce bringing it to the ground but phasing back before I can bite it. I see my sister spring into view slitting the does throat with ease.

 "Better luck next time." She teases, phasing back. We watch the sky get darker. "C'mon. We better bring the hunt back," Ella puts all of the rabbits in the leather sack she carries, and I pick the doe up with ease. We run quickly back home. As well as super strength, we don't need to be phased to be fast.

 "Hurry!" I call from ahead. With bigger and stronger muscles, Ella runs ahead of me, laughing playfully.

~VENELOPE~

When we get back, our Father is outside on his chair, reading the newspaper he picked up earlier. "Any news Papa?" I ask.

 "Yes. I regret to inform you there has been another were-death by the same river...I want you girls to avoid it at all costs." he says

"But Pa, that river has the freshest water around and it runs nearby." Alanza says receiving the snarl Papa gives when he is being disobeyed.

 I step up in front of Alanza. "Of course Papa. I'll make sure of it." Giving him a serious look, so Ally wouldn't see it.

 "I'm going to cook dinner." she sighs, running inside wih the doe still bleeding down to the floor.

 I walk inside and toss the bag onto the counter next to Ally. "Here. I'll be right back." I run upstairs, and pick up my cellphone from my desk. 4 texts. 1 missed call. All from Andy. I've forgotten all about my phone.

~ALANZA~

 As I chop the deer and dice it to be fried and served on rice, I watch the sun go down over the trees. I inhale deeply taking in the fresh air, the smell of raw meat, the scent of pine and the burning of wood in our fireplace. My senses grow stronger and I hear a distant call of running water coming from the forbidden river...

~VENELOPE~

 I open my inbox. 'Hey x' 'Hey are you busy tonight?' 'Hey Ella' 'Is everything alright?' I read all four texts in my head.

 "Oh isnt that sweet" Alanza calls up the stairs to me "He misses you." she teases.

 I gasp. 'Shit.' I roll my eyes at my sister, and start to reply to Andy. 'Hey baby. I miss you. Sorry I didn't text sooner. I was out and I didn't bring my phone. Love you. x'

 "Don't worry about apologizing to him just come down here and help me by cooking the rice and onions." Ally yells.

 I sigh and get up off of my bed. I slump down the stairs and into the kitchen to start stirring the food.
