1926 - Cairo, Egypt
Cars honking. Clatter of horses hurdling the sidewalks with their fellow owners. Heavy wind sprawling dust everywhere. People shouting left to right. Yup this is definitely the same old Cairo Aurelia was once familiar with.
As she continued looking out the window towards the passing city, she couldn't help but get a feeling of nostalgia. No doubt upsetting memories clouded her mind; especially from this cities orphanage.
Aurelia sighed heavily as she withdrew the scarf from her neck, 'God this weather' she muttered to herself frustratingly. She can already feel the sweat starting to form.
She didn't understand why she felt a slight nervousness coming back to Egypt. After all her task was fairly simple, get Rick the hell out of that prison hell hole before he get's hanged later on today.
Sure she was accustomed to receiving calls from her older brother's prison phone booth pleading her to get him out and swearing he won't get into trouble with the law.
But as always he did.
Rick was always the most rebellious one out of both of them. However none of his actions back home can compare to his recklessness of now.
Ever since he turned into an adult he left England and returned back to Cairo with crazy determination of some sort.
Hell you can basically say he lived in Cairo's prison from all his arrests.
And that is why Aurelia stopped wasting money and freeing Rick since she knew he was going to end up back in eventually.
Sometimes she couldn't help but question if her brother was even sane. Growing up he always muttered stuff over some 'unfinished quest to find a lost Egyptian city' and feeling a 'strange pull' to return back.
Aurelia never admitted it but sometimes she felt that way too, though she assumed it was just because it was both their birth place and childhood; absolutely nothing more.
Now she was forced to come back and deal with the absurdness of him possibly getting hanged today. He's told so many lies to get freed that she didn't know what to believe and what not to.
Her thinking was pushed into a halt as the car she was riding in steadied to a stop.
"Here we are miss, the one and only Cairo prison" said the cab driver as he looked back towards Aurelia.
She gave a side glanced towards the prison and internally groaned at it's messy structure. Turning back to the driver she smiled, "Well it sure does look like it. Thank you for the ride mister" as she handed him both the total and a good tip.
The gentlemen returned a grateful sheepish grin and asked as she was stepping out of the cab, "If you don't mind me asking my lady, why this destination?"
Shutting the back door she leaned a little into the front window, "Oh you know troubled siblings" she retorted with a sigh.
"Ah I see. I must say it's not a quite safe place for a pretty lady like you. Stay safe little one alright" He replied worriedly.
She gave the old fella a good ole smug grin, "Of course, no worries I know some fighting tricks here and there" then she stood up and gave him a confident wave "I'll manage! now go on sir and have a good rest of your day!" While slowly skipping backwards awaiting for his final reply.
"Alright as you as well my lady! Be careful!" After they both parted ways, she watched as he drove towards the exit until he was no longer in view.
Sighing she turned towards the prison and felt her mood immediately changed. 'That's it. This is the final straw. Rick is gonna get it!' she thought sourly to herself.
--
Already in the entrance, she was stopped by a roundy old n dirty fella who quickly introduced himself "Well hello there miss, I'm Gad Hassan how may I be of service to you?" She had noticed the way his eyes racked over her physique before making eye contact again and couldn't help but roll her eyes.
"I'm Aurelia. I'm looking for Rick O'Connell" she gritted out annoyed.
His eyes widen in recognition, "Ah yes he was expecting you, quite frankly yelling for you." He laughed for a couple seconds until he realized he was the only one doing so. Coughing he continued, "follow me I'll take you to him" with that they proceeded walking.
"Come come and step over the threshold" his back pointed towards her as he began to show her the surroundings, "Welcome to Cairo Prison, my humble home".
She skidded towards his side and asked, "As I'm assuming your the warden of the prison or whatever, I must ask what exactly is he in here for?" By this time they have already made it in front of a cell and was surprised to find two other strangers awaiting alongside impatiently. One was a petite brunette women and the other was a man who definitely enjoyed dressing as a classy rich man.
"Well lady, this I did not know. But when I heard that you were coming , I asked him that myself." He replied calmly. He yelled some signal towards the guards.
"and what did he say?" Aurelia replied intently.
"he said he was just looking for a good time." Suddenly a man with two guards holding him from each side bursted out of the back door and into the cell furiously. With a final kick from one of the guards, the man was on his knees.
Aurelia took a good second to realize the prisoner was not other than Rick himself, "ah hey sister! You actually came." He replied joyfully as if he wasn't just kicked to the floor.
With her hands on each side of her hips, 'Oh he's so dead this time' she thought as her piercing green eyes gave him a cold stern glare, "Don't even mutter another single word."
Rick seeing his younger sister pissed rolled his eyes and began to prepare himself for her never ending mommy lectures.
