"Mom, stop crying" I said felling tears running down my face.
"Do you really have to go?"
"I'll be back in six months. And I promise that I'll call you every week, okay?"
"But what if something happens to you? I won't be there to help you"
"I'm sure I'll make friends and I can handle if something happens"
"Okay, okay, you can go now"
I say goodbye to my older sister, Alessandra, to my father and to my mother. Damn, I'll miss them so much. I'll miss my sister the most. She's five years older than me, but we have always been really close, and now I won't see her for 6 months.
Thinking about that, I hug her one more time and my parents too, so I finally go to get my plane. After passing everything that I have to get to the boarding area.
"Flight 4563, to California"
'So here I'll go' I think to myself and go to the plane.
'15 hours in the plane, yey'After the flight
Wow, my entire body hurts to have slept. Now, more 20 minutes sat in a car.
I grab my phone and call me an Uber. He was just 3 minutes away, so I manage to get to the exit fast. It was almost as we were in sync, we got there at the exact same moment.
I get in the car and it is a guy, around 50 years, bald and chubby, with a bright smile.
"University of Southern California, right?" He asked to confirm the destiny.
"Yes. I'm starting there next week, but going today to adjust"
"Oh, that's nice. My daughter study's there too. What are you going to do?"
"Cinematic arts, and your daughter, what does she do?"
"Oh, she does dance"
"That's so nice. I thought about it, but I'm not able to dance" I said laughing
And the conversation ended, so I got my phone to talk to my mom and my sister on our group on WhatsApp "meninas" it's the name of the group. It means girls in portuguese.
After 6 minutes we arrived at the University, I pay him an thank, he wishes me good luck. I'm gonna need.
I get in the place and try to find the secretary, but this place is huge. I think it will be better for me to ask someone. A girl was sat on a chair reading a book. I go towards her and say:
"Excuse me, could you help me to find the secretary?"
She looks at me with a smile and say:
"Sure, I'll take you there"
"Oh, thanks. I'm Hina, by the way"
"I'm Lily. Hina? That and different name"
"Yeah, my mom is kinda crazy. But I love it. Is the goddess of the Moon and fertility on the maori's mythology"
"That's so pretty"
"Yeah, that's why I love it. And ironically, the goddess actually look like me a little"
"Really?"
"A little. Like, the hair, the skin colour"
"Nice. Here is the secretary. She said pointing at a door on her right"
"Thanks. A lot"
"Your welcome. So, the campus is kind of empty yet, so do you wanna hang around after?"
"Sure. Give me your number, so we can talk"
"Yes, sure"
I gave her my phone and she put her number in it.
"My room is the 108, so if you wanna drop by, is just go there. But knock before you get in" she said
"Ok. Thanks once again"
I get in the secretary's office and she looks at me when the door opens.
"May I help you?" She said, not looking like she was happy doing that.
"Yes, I wanna Know what my room is and the keys, please"
"Ok. Your name?"
"Hina Kuhner"
"Your room is 304. Here's the key"
"Could you say how to get there?"
"Do I look like a map to you?"
"Ok, sorry"
And with all this simpathy I try to find my room
I go to the rooms part and it's a huge hallway with many rooms. Starts on the 200's so I must to be that way.
After walking a lot, I finally find it, so I get in and see two simple beds, two wardrobes and one bathroom.
I choose right side and put my things on the bed.
I have nothing to do, and even though my body hurts, I'm not tired, so I take my speaker, connect with my phone and put the kind of music that reminds me home the most: Funk. So I open my bag and start to put things on my wardrobe while I sing and dance.
Than the door open and a boy comes in.
Wait, a boy?
