Yes, I know it is out of order. Jeff is supposed to be next, but I have an explanation at the end of this chapter.
I owe you all a lot.
BEN drowned
You stared at the controller in your hands, trying to make sense of the thing before you. You had never been more confused trying to play this game than anything else before.
You pressed a random button, and the game sent you to a different screen. You weren't sure if you pressed the right button, or if you were on the right screen, you honestly couldn't tell. You looked at the screen, your eyes squinting just the tiniest bit, out of some unknown instinct.
It was a list of files the game had, there was only one and you could definitely tell it wasn't your cousin's. Your cousin always had Bestplayah4EVAH, as his file name for everything. He really was that smug about his gaming skills, but the file in Majora's Mask wasn't titled BestPlayah4EVAH, it was simply BEN.
That was really weird to you, but instead of clicking on the file, you went to New Game. If that file really was your cousin's for some crazy reason, then he would definitely not be happy to see that someone was messing with his game progress. You weren't sure you'd be able to even play the game if it was so far ahead.
You first made it into the game, and it seemed alright, though you managed to run your little Link character into the walls of nearby buildings several times, of which you flinched and yelled,"Sorry Link!"
Overall, you played pretty well, you were progressing slowly, but hey, you were trying, right? You managed to walk through a stone hall without running into the ancient walls on either side, that is solid progress right there.
But something odd happened.
At some point during the game, the buildings and area seemed to get really empty. There should have been more people walking around the streets, right? There were none, it was as if they had all suddenly died off, or there was a really big party somewhere that they wanted to get to. Maybe there was a taco stand somewhere, that would explain a lot.
You shrugged it off, perhaps it was just a temporary glitch or something. Maybe it was a part of the game. So you were all alone in an apocalyptic sort of way, that's nothing. It was easy to overlook anyway.
But then came the music.
You had walked into a dark building of some sort-maybe it was a dungeon-when suddenly your little Link started spazzing out. The entire of Link's upper body turned haphazardly to the side in a really gross, unnatural way and the music went off as if on cue.
It was so terrible, choppy, unnatural,it sounded so weird, but somehow familiar. Very familiar. But the notes were all wrong, surely the game wasn't supposed to be like that.
Wait a minute. You knew someone who would know about the game.
Your cousin.
Quickly, because the weird song was really making you uncomfortable for some reason, you grabbed your phone from a small nightstand on the side of your bed and dailed your cousin. You waited for three of the ringing sounds to go by, when your lazy cousin miraculously answered the phone, but he sounded rather infuriated,"Hey, if you're that dude from downstairs, I swear I didn't take your little 'Connies', or whatever the hell you call them! It was Jackson who burned them."
"Er-Hello,"you asked, uncertain if you should hang up or ask what he meant by 'Connies'. He was in college, so you probably didn't want to know.
"Oh! Hey, (Y/n),"said your cousin cheerily, as if he hadn't just shouted at you like if you had killed his family,"You missed me already? I knew you would, no one can stay away and not miss the Bestpla-God, what's that horrible music I hear there?"
